Default I envy you Island Dwellers
Because of this:

If you live in the U.K., and you do no take advantage of this restaurant at least once in your existence, you have my leave to fling yourself off one of the many sea-cliffs that allegedly exist there.

Ssshh, don't say things like that so loud, we don't want the French to actually realise we have good food over here in the UK, they would be very upset to have to abandon their pathetic froggy stereotypes...

Mike

PS - My girlfriend comes from the Lake District and we're moving there summer after this one

I wonder what the cost of a 24-course foo-foo meal like that is? I know, I know, if I have to ask...

I'm guessing there isn't a good chicken and rice burrito anywhere near there, either.

Did you notice the number of french names for the food? foie gras, purée, langoustine (the word is french, even if they are scottish), something which come from l'île de Ré, fleur de sel, the melon come from Charente, croutons is french too, and finally the petit fours.

Seems typical for English restaurants. Can't just call it cake, it must be "gateau". That overcooked beef not fancy enough? Pour some Bearnaise sauce on top and give it a French name on the menu.

I wrote a small smiley, and I thought it might start a funny thread drift. It worked well in the two old threads in the flame section: american&culture and what's wrong with French..
And enclume is a french word too.

Moreover I wanted to make a useless comments about accentuation, but I forget to write it.

BTW, does the é and è are well printed on your english or american systems, or do they make something like Ã@ ?

Oups! I'm drifting.

EDIT: You can be sure that you will never see english food names in french restaurants.
EDIT2: why not starting a thread about the specific food of our countries?

And enclume is a french word too.
...and so is the phrase 'lichieres pautonnier'.

EDIT2: why not starting a thread about the specific food of our countries?
...because the English offerings will be very amusing to the rest of the world (except America).

Hell, yes! From what I have heard, Aberdeen is a decent, manly town.

lichieres pautonnier
I googled it,trying to know if you were kidding or not. I only found english pages about it. So I had to translate the english translation to understand it. I tried to find good insults in English, but I do not find many other than "moron", "dumb" or something with f*ck in it. Lack of imagination?

I have always found English food fun, as long as I do not have to eat something with mint sauce.
