hi
ive seen the post, and all I can say is what would I do in this situation. 1.- first of all always try to avoid fighting. no matter how ready you are for a fight there is always a chance to get hurt. 2.- if confrontation is inevitable, FIGHT BACK, in this you have to think and decide in a fraction of second if you fight or if you run. in fact, generally the decicion about fighting/running is a reflex act, you dont think too much if you fight: 3.- try to use pepper spray instead of fighting. is really usefull and cheap to buy. learn how to use a pepper spray can properly, otherwise you could hurt yourself or someone else. it could really make the difference if you are attacked. do not hesitate in hurting. aim your pepper spray DIRECTLY to the eyes and dont mind if your attacker sight gets messed up (in fact thats the idea) pepper spray might not work if the guy is in to cocaine or something like that. (once I knew a guy that got assaulted by an armed guy, and to defend himself he use 2 pepper spray cans completely in to the face of the attacker, nobody really knows if the guy recovered his sight, but it saved the victim's LIFE) 4.- if you decide to fight, DO NOT HESITATE. dont mind about hurting the guy too much, if somebody assaults you, he could KILL you. if you see yourself in to a fight you have to end it as fast as you can. this are the points you are looking for to attack: -balls: kick or hit, as hard as you can, it could end il loosing conciousness, but be carefull, ive been told that it could end up killing a guy, but thats only a myth -eyes. fingers in to eyes, it could end up in momentary orcomplete blindness. -neck, -nose, punch directly to the nose it doesnt really hurt so much but it bleeds like hell, as broken nose freaks out anyone also a direct hit to the ears could mahe him feel dizzi, 5.- use any weapon you could find. for example if you are carrying a jacket, trow it in to your attacker face and he will be blind for a fraction of second that youll need for a kick in the balls... a pencil, a deck of cards, a handbag, a book, a coin, a stone, a cellphone, keys, a scarf, a belt... anything you are carryng could be used as a weapon. 6.- if you decide to fight you have to know that is not like hitting a sandbag,k your attacker WILL fight back 7.- remember that you have little chances to win, thats why is important to avoid fighting, but if you do win, then run. your attacker can still follow you. ---------------------- but as i said, the most important thing is to try avoid fighting, it doesnt mean to turn the other cheek. it means that you have to try not to walk alone late in the night and stuff like that. but no matter how cautious you are you could still be attacked, and if you have NO other choice other than fighting back, do it as if you are playing your life in it, becouse maybe you are. |

all countryes has different realitys.
arround here where I live things are quite peacefull, but in the city where is my university things are completelly different (im not talking about the capital, arround there is some sort of bad guys playgroud.) here where I study, its a hard thing in fact being here for a couple of years you end up knowing some bad guys by their faces and you know that there are some guys in the city that you have to stay away from. the problem arround here isnt the number of attacks, it is the violence in it. I remember when I was a kid you could walk arround without making much trouble about it. but about 10 years ago foreign chemical drugs started to come in, and nowadays robery isnt about getting money to eat. is about getting money to buy drugs and almost always an attacker is stoned and they act with irrational violence and you could get killed by a couple of bucks. arround here where i live the posibbility of getting robed is low (compaired with other cityes or countries) but the posibillity of getting hurt IF you get hitted is high. in fact the bad guys would cut you with a knife or hit you even if you have already gave away your cellphone and money, they do it just for fun becouse they are stoned. so around here things are if you get hitted, fight back or get your ass kicked |

Wow, Karou. Wished I lived in your fairy land. Your suggested actions woulda had me gutter stomped, even in li'l ol' Adelaide and it's nice to say don't go out by yourself at night but for me, in the old days, that would mean not training and these days it would mean not working. Also, I don't think the guy was after a lecture. I get the impression he knows the dangers somehow.
Oh and Sats - woohoo for the www! Bring on the fun, baldy! (and I do not sound posh OR like any one from *spits* Neighbours) |

You got beat in a tight space? "I'd do it, but I pulled my back at humping your mom last night. Neetch!." Then run (Yes, I love stoner movies too) On a more serious note, some of the advice given here is a bit worrying. Sorry about barking the newbie rule, but I find it strange that someone will go into that much detail about an assault, is not a thing to boast about in detail. The assaulter was a stoner?, I would find a heroin addict a bit more credible. You want good self-defence advice?: remove yourself from the situation. What is this "I know it will happen again?", I hope you don't go around picking fights, do you? |

Hey Leinheart,
For the most part, kendo isn't a self defense martial art. Doesn't mean it's worthless practicing, it's worthwhile for other reasons (check out the kendo no rinen, the purpose of kendo). One of my sempai has practiced and taught karate for 30 years. He gave me the advice that no matter what martial art you know or how long you train, there are some crazy mother f@ckers out there who weigh 250, get angrier the more you hurt them, don't care about consequences, and want to hurt you. If you're out weighed, out muscled and out crazied, and don't want to kill or permanently disfigure someone, you're screwed in a fight no matter what ball kicking eye punching shinai wacking techniques you use. Best way to go might be don't-pick-a-fight-with-huge-crazy-dude-waza. But hey, sometimes things get out of hand. I'm not lecturing, just giving my opinion. Since you'll probably see this guy again, I'd go with JoDuncan's advice. Good luck to you. |

really... if this whole story is on the up-and-up, what he needs to do is figure out a better/safer way of going to/from home/dojo.. So we can probably guess that he doesn't live in a housing project. He says he was visiting his friend's apartment and this broohaha breaks out in the hallway at 10:00 p.m. Apparently nobody thinks it is unusal so nobody calls 911, nobody opens their door and nobody comes out. Not likely. My guess is that, if it happened at all, it is greatly embelished and he knows the other guy and there is something going on that he isn't telling. |
