Default Support Mr Tul Bahadur Pun VC & Our Gurkhas
If anyone in the UK is under the illusion that Veterans are treated with dignity and respect please
take a look at the following links.

http://www.vchero.co.uk

http://www.arrse.com/cpgn2/index.php...=66783#1303736

(I must warn you that there are "strong views" expressed on www.arrse.com sensitive souls beware)

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/gurkhas-rights/

How this man can be refused entry to this country because he has "failed to demonstrate strong ties with the UK" is beyond me.

He holds the Victora Cross, the highest honour this nation can bestow and this government "Neue Arbeit" refuses to help in his old age.

We spend billions each year helping criminals, druggies and sundry scum and yet cant seem to find a few bob to help a brave man.

As an ex-Stafford and total cynic do i detect an underlying policy by HMG not to set a precedent in helping Veterans of our nations wars. God forbid they might have to actually do something for past and present servicemen.

I could rant all day about the "Stasi" that run this country and its policy of breaking the British Army but i would ask you all especially the Brits to support the campaign to get Mr Pun to England for his last few years.

I've always held the Ghurkas in legendary awe...the stories the veterans would tell of them in both Malaysia and Oz sends a lot of respect their way.

Sadly, the way the British Government(not people) treat them is almost like cheap labour...they get paid a smidgen of what British troops get and yet fight at the forefront of some of the most dangerous engagements to date.

I remember the Government making a big wind about sending 500 british troops to East Timor...of which 10 were 'British' and 490 were Ghurkas.

The recent pension revision and so forth is a good step along the road to improvement...

Currently, both Singapore and Brunei employ Ghurka regiments...and those cats are scary. I mean I laugh at the Singaporean border police, in their power poses trying to look tough(note:Singapore and Malaysia have a nice relationship...like the New Zealanders and the Aussies), but when their Ghurka guards walk by I STFU...big time.

I agree totally with your comments - I am appalled that the Neue Arbeit Government could allow a hero who fought for OUR rights to be treated like this, and yet defend the right of, and protect, terrorists, jihadists et al.
I am fuming

Heh, I liked the stories of Ghurka humor like the one about British Officers demanding more 'hazard' pay when using Ghurka drivers. Apparently, they take orders literally and when you say 'go straight at the roundabout'...well, lets just say a lot of fountains had a jeep motiff added to its decor.

Or how British soldiers jumping into Ghurka trenches suddenly found that their heads were still a good foot above the parapet.

Or the body hacking stories...when they were cremating a comrade, the heat caused the body to 'sit up'. They all had a good chuckle and just pushed it back down onto the pyre...when it happened a few more times they took out their Khukris and chopped the body in half!

The same happened to some fallen germans. They were told to bury the german dead but the frozen bodies were in odd positions and could not fit into the regulation size graves and much to the returning officer's horror, out came the khukris for a choppy chop session.

Well...I don't know about supporting/protecting jihadists or terrorists but I do know some really screwed up people get into the country, like me! bwahahahaha!...but seriously, I remember reading in the papers a few years ago about an Iraqi immigrant who was walking around the tube harrassing women and touching their bodies or hair calling them beautiful and whatnot. He finally grabbed a teenage girl, dragged her to his hotel and raped her and was then arrested when she went sobbing to management.

A Church group went to his defense to say he was a foreigner and does not understand the local culture here...let me repeat that. HE WAS A FOREIGNER AND DOES NOT UNDERSTAND THE LOCAL CULTURE...so it was all a misunderstanding, he didn't know it was wrong to rape women...riiiiiight.

Sometimes I think insanity prevails...

Yes the good old British Government. We let in anyone from virtually anywhere in Europe whether they come with good intent or bad but anyone who has risked life and limb for the cause of this country and hey presto, the borders come crashing down.

How did a country as Effed up as ours ever to get to rule the world once. Not asking - just making a point.

Signed. I think it's laughable that we're having to do this in the first place. How can you be awarded the VC and be told you have no ties to the UK? Sort it out!

Its typical of this GOBerments attitude.

O it's Jonny this, an' Jonny that, an' "Jonny, go away";
But it was "Thank you, Mister Gurkha", when the band began to play.
The band begins to play, my boys...

Just signed and e-mailed my MP.

When you see some of the people this government allows to stay in the country how can they refuse this man entry?

I don't see why anyone should be denied entry into any country. I've yet to hear a decent reason for restricting the movement of people. Other than nationalistic fear and racism, there's no logical reason.

Used to train with an ex-marine and Falklands veteran. His stories about the Ghurkas used to crack me up and scare me at the same time. Said you sometimes saw them walking around holding hands. If any of the British lads had done that they would never have heard the end of it but none of the marines would dare say anything to the Ghurkas. LOL.

Signed with great pleasure. What a f*&ked up country we live in in the UK. What could be more British than a VC holder? Wouldn't care if they were from Mars if they had a VC.

I liked the one about jungle warfare training where a platoon had to make it 3k's or so to a clearing. Everyone made it into the safe zone and were thinking the Ghurkas weren't such a tuff bunch. Then the Officer in charge of the course came along and said 'well done, but if any of you have a blue chalk mark on your shoulder...you're dead.'

To which point the entire platoon noticed the marks on each other's uniforms.

Mike Yeah, even a Field Marshal has to salute a VC holder.
