Default Don't you just hate email marketing...
Don't you just hate being contacted out of the blue about something that is irrelevant, mainly because the marketer couldn't be arsed to actually check you out before sending you a load of crap?

Here's what I just received - idiot's name removed for common decency: Hi

I have just come across your website. I run a magazine based in Birmingham called Child magazine. Our readers mainly consist of moms with young children.

In the next issue we would love to include a section out of school activities in the Birmingham region and would love your class to be included in our listing directory. The cost of this is £25 to cover a period of 3 months.

If you would be interested in receiving a copy of the magazine together with an info pack please get back to me and I will send one to you.

We are also currently developing our website which will be up and running within a month. This would be an excellent place for you to advertise your services.

I hope we can work together in the near future.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes

Hi ****,

Thanks for the offer, but we teach an old martial art that revolves around the ancient killing arts of the Samurai. It has no self-defence application, and as such I am unsure of how this would apply to 'Child' magazine.

Do you think your readership would be interested in learning techniques that are aimed at exposing weaknesses in the opponent's armour and targetting their arteries?

Perhaps our last class would be more appropriate? We studied the implications of how the opponent's helmet straps could be used to strangle him, should our own weapon break on the battlefield.

If you still think that young mums would benefit from our art, please let me know and we can meet up and discuss a potential article...

Regards,

Scott

Scott, how do you deal with those e-mails elliciting your help in collecting some widow's rightful fortune that was depositited in a bank just before her husband, late president of (insert African nation here), was assassinated and she was forced to flee the country?
I am not technologically rich enough to find out her postal address and give it the the Jehova's Witnesses.

Did they reply? Are we going to get some mums in the class? Some more females perhaps?

I usually get porn, offers of cheap viagra (you did say I have difficulty keeping it up during the class!) and the emails you keep sending pretending to be an ex-ruler of (insert African nation here) in my inbox.

Hehe I got a response! Hi Scott

Thank you for your message - which was enlightening! I haven't much experience in the different learning techniques of martial arts, although I can think of a few parents who could benefit from your techniques - but don't quote me on that!!!

Best wishes

Posrep to her not only for having a good sense of humour but also because she has come across as someone who was actively trying to make a difference to something she was involved in. And despite the fact that it can seem annoying at the time I think she deserves credit for doing her very best in this.
