and don't get me started on the Kanji tattoos...
Absolutely guilty here, though I'd like to think there's more meaning to it than simply a bout of rebellion exhibited via japanese fanboy-ism. And yes, I know it doesn't matter that I could read the kanji myself before getting it.

I did think this rant on House was really funny though.
House: Oh, dude. You are so hired.

Dr. Spain: Really?

House: Not a chance.

Dr. Spain: Why?

House: Tattoo. [Dr. Spain turns his right arm to reveal a kanji symbol on his forearm.]

Dr. Spain: Wow. I thought you’d be the last person to have a problem with nonconformity.

House: Nonconformity, right. I can’t remember the last time I saw a 20-something kid with a tattoo of an Asian letter on his wrist. You are one wicked free thinker. You want to be a rebel? Stop being cool. Wear a pocket protector like he does and get a haircut. Like the Asian kids who don’t leave the library for 20 hours stretches, they’re the ones who don’t care what you think. Sayonara. [Dr. Spain leaves.]

Wilson: So should I go through all the resumes looking for Asian names?

House: Actually, the Asian kids are probably just responding to parental pressure, but my point is still valid.

I have to totally agree on the bluetooth thing. If anybody on this forum uses one...no apologies, you're a douchebag.
I knew this would be right up your alley.

the thing about the Kanji tats that I don't understand is... Why put something on you that most can't read. why take the chance that someone may put the incorrect kanji on you.

My wife told me one new girl in the bank had a tat on her that was the kanji for Devil & woman. when i went to make some deposits, I had to ask the girl what the tat meant & she said in a flirty way, "Bad Girl, if you know what I mean" -- dummy!

OK I have to say ( and I am pretty drunk) I have an iPhone..but not because I think the are cool...it works for me..just like a blackberry works for some. And I', *kinda* guilty of the tribal thing..but I drew my own so I guess that counts for something (if not well, too bad). I also play guitar hero..but ya know I am a gamer girl so I can get away with it.

People who come up with these things are pissed cause they cant afford an iPhone, they are no good at guitar hero/rock band..or any other video game or pull of a NES controller belt.

Not that I would ever wear the belt. As for the PT crusier...well I LOVE classic cars (go ford coupes) but there's something about it that doesnt quite give me the throw back feel.

I feel it is my duty to let people know that if they have any of said items or do any of said activities, it doesn't mean YOU aren't cool; you are cool. It just means that "it" is uncool because of the arse ticklers that use them.

e.g. iPhones: cool piece of technology, but the fuds that use them get my juices boiling.
Guitar hero, no way. It's just plain nerdy, has been from the start. Who ever thought playing a likkle plastic fake guitar was cool?? It's just damn good fun! Just don't go thinking that you can play the guitar.... there are more than 5 buttons you know...
Tats: I can't be the only one who thought that George Clooney's tat in Dusk till Dawn was B'dass. I don't have any, i'm clean, but that tatoo was ace. However, it would take someone who enjoys self abuse of the highest degree and of the most frequent occurence to have one.

It's quite funny that a lot of the suggestions are things that I have never seen or even dreamt of in my imagination...

The one thing i think is the most uncool is:
A bunch of web-designing, virgin nerds trying to tell me what is cool.

Really?!!? I've watched Happy Days, i know what cool is... and apparently it is a 40 year old that hangs out with teenagers...

Jo: have a thought for those of us who HAVE TO spend time with teenagers...
I work in Further Education colleges..........

Trust me - - NOTHING will put you off attempting to be 'down with the kids' more than being forced to spend time with them.

e.g.;- one of the BOYS got a 'tramp stamp' tribal tat - - before he had asked anyone's advice...... he is now asking 'how much to have it removed?'

They are all fools of the first order - - why would anyone want to identify with them?

Hahaha, at least it wasn't a big celtic cross!!

I wonder if any Japanese have Engrish tatoos, like their random T-shirts with unintelligible pseudo English....

You mean the people that go out of their way to let others know they have an iPhone/Blackberry..and instead of saying "Hey call me later" they say "Call my iPhone later" ?

Guitar Hero..har har...it is cool. But then again I am a really big geek and in a year I'll be a game environment artist. Although I do hate those guys who posts Utoobe vids about them 100%-ing "One" on expert. No one caaaares that you spend that much time playing that game.

And..that tat WAS pretty sweet..not that I would get something like that done. Personally I don't care what people think of MY tattoos...if I did I would own 50 longsleeve shirts or never leave home.

Look, it was the mid 80's and it went really well with my Billy Idol haircut.
I got a tattoo that says: "Totally Radical Tubular Bitichin"

Later, when I consulted a real Japanese person, to my utter dismay, I found out that the tattoo actually said:

"This retard with the Billy Idol haircut wants me to put to Kanji on his arm so now I am, but perhaps many years from now when he's regretting what he's done he'll...what's that smell? I think it smells like Cheeseburgers but I don't remember having Cheeseburgers recently..could that be my socks? No, I don't think so. Rene washed them last night with "Forest Mist" Snuggle fabric softener which I hate, as I told her to get the "August Rain" smell when she went to the store last week, but she ALWAYS forgets. Sometimes I think it's because she has issues with men in general. Probably because of her overbearing father. I never really think she got over his Alcoholism. Maybe we should have a talk about our relationship. It may be time to call it quits since the abortion issue, but I think really I'm just not ready for a committed relationship right now. I mean, I've got school, my music, and this tattoo business. Mom wanted me to be a Doctor, but that's just not where my head is at, you know? Oh man..This idiot is looking at me..better add in some extra characters...ok...I..am..a.. complete...tool..there all done."

Jackass.

does magic roundabout come under the ringtones one?

totally agree with the ear thingys

#14 manbags (handbags for men), or bumbags
I once referred to a fanny pack (bumbag, I assume) in front of an english woman and she almost fell down laughing.

I can't see the list at work - are messenger bags on there? I use one when I bike to work and I have to say, I feel like a total tool. But it works.

Sitting in the coffee shop working on your laptop, reading some weird forum about grown people whacking each other with sticks.................. Damn it, Guilty!

That and the Kanji tat... although i agree it has more meaning than rebellion or some stupid barbed wire design.

I once saw a woman with a badly hadwriting kanji on her biceps/shoulder. It was Yasu, which I have been told can mean Peace. But it can also mean cheap I have been told. I was tempted to ask what she thought it meant but I didn't because she was serving me a sandwich and I always want to be friends with people that feed you.
