Yep, everyone forgets that Christmas is really about livening things up when it's cold and dreary, and celebrating the winter solstice.
Poodlespit. You northern hemisphere chumps have it all wrong.

Christmas is about getting together at someones backyard pool, swimming around with plastic glasses of vino/bundy/champers or beer until youre all wrinkly and pithed. Then you hand around the suncream, cremate a few kilos of lamb and prawns on the BBQ, and yell at any kids leaving the back door open for the flies to get inside.

Everyone migrates inside when its too hot to walk on the paving outside, where the drinking and eating continues until people pass out on the coolest patch of lino they can find.

Boxing Day is traditionally "beach day", where you do it all again. The person who can body surf without getting saltwater in their beer gets a standing ovation... from those who can stand.

CHRISTMAS IS AWESOME

If that were in America, we'd just have have plastic tumblers, vodka and deep-fried pork ribs.
I swear, where has all the culture in our American lives gone?

Sigh.....You wonderful Aussies...So elegant.

I wanna do that too. I am in the same boat with Neil Cold Cold and more Cold. It's -37 celcius right now with windchill. I wanna go to the beach. I have never seen a Christmas without snow I think it would be a good change of pace.

Had to actually wear a coat today, and that makes it too cold for me!

All I want for Christmas is to summer in the U.S., and winter down under!

White sand is a lovely alternative

And yes Kenzan, Christmas here is classy - especially when you notice that Uncle John has been drinking constantly for the last 5 hours, but hasnt once got out of the pool to go to the loo......

What would I like for Christmas? To see my family and have a good time. That'll do... With lots of chlorine.

If that's really the case, I believe you owe me some one some money.

Ok, getting back to the subject at hand... I wonder if it was proper for the ranks to give a little something in appreciation to the sensei?

My Sensei wants a box of Cuban cigars and a coupon for a Thai massage with a happy ending.

I got him a Santa-Claus tie.

OMG.... -20 for a high?? Ouch... I think I've only seen that here about twice since I moved here 10 years ago. That's insane, for a high. If it was -32 (Assume w/out the windchill.), in the morning, it must've hit like what... -40 for the low?
No, -32F was the low, without windchill. But it hits -40 (C or F, same) here pretty much every year. I never quote windchill in temperature, pet peeve of mine. At -40 there's usually no wind at all anyways, you need to be in a hell of a low to generate that temperature. The weather is actually more miserable when it's a little warmer and the wind can come up.
I have never seen a Christmas without snow I think it would be a good change of pace.
About 10 years ago or so it was +10C (50 F) on Boxing Day. I have a picture of me repairing my deck in a sweatshirt, no snow in sight. Weird.

I grew up in a town called Embarrass, Minnesota (google it) where one year we set the record low temperature for the continental United States... -65 F. They closed school and just about everything else. It was really cool because you could spit and it would freeze before it hit the ground.

Fast forward to today, I'm in Portland Oregon and laugh at the wussy winters.

All I want for X-Mas is for Operation:Shoot-down Claus to go off without a hitch. Say goodbye to X-Mas kiddies. MUA HA HA HA HA!

We have dedicated cyclists here that ride every day of the year, -40 days included. There's bikes parked in the rack outside as I write this.

Well, I'm pretty good for kendo stuff. Shinais,...check. Bogu....check. Nagging left achilles....check.

But, I'm pretty sure I've got some great DVD's coming. I went through the threads on here and found out everyone's fave movies, and gave my wife a list. There's some DVD shaped parcels under the tree...she's not home...should I peek?

Oh yeah,...I really wish I could do 2009 Haya-Suburi this Friday at our final practice for the year.

I'm scared. One of my dojo-mates said this is the tradition. Apparently this is in store for us followed by some balloon-geiko.
