Oh, I wanted to ask you, your wife practice kendo too? If is yes, how will she do it with the training now she know she's pregnant?

Pure curiosity, some day i plan to have kids and I think it is nice to kn ow if you can keep going anyway.
She humours my addiction to Kendo, is very understanding and pushes me to go to class when time allows. She has an interest in this regard, but has not yet made the step to go. I think a basics and more warm up style exercises would be alright for pregnant women....no hisuburi...or keiko..... Just looking forward to a litle kenshi running around

You can still go, but ONLY really do suburi and kata. but definately go! It's good for the baby!!!

When we found out my wife was pregnant, she stopped practising completely but still came to the dojo to support/teach me. They reckon babies can hear the outside world from inside the womb, so my daughter has heard the sound of Kiai right from being an embryo!

Now she is 4 months old and my wife is back practising with me, my daughter usually just sleeps through even the noisiest of kakarigeiko! she seems to quite like coming to kendo with us! But then Kendo is in her blood, she comes from a pretty long line of kendo players...

Awwww so cute! Probably she can start practicing soon with you, she will be a great kendoka.

So thanks for that, I was really hoping not to stop going practicing and keep my life as normal as possible when that moment comes.

So if #5 is on the way (Nov. 11) for us, does that mean we are living up the Prime Directive?

That Youtube video was great - I need some small shinai's like that (#2, who is three yrs old likes using my shoto bokuto, but my wife is afraid she'll practice her men's on her two younger sisters ...). *if there is a lurker out there who thinks she gets to use it while not being supervised I'm sure you'd be more than willing to volunteer to make sure she is striking properly with it*

Its true. When you think of it, and you do any teaching you do your best to foucus on good form so that you dont telegraph any bad habits to those observing....at least not to many anyhow.
Sign number 372 that you've grown up- The realization that your someones role model, and everything you do and how you live helps shape who they are to become. The need to live life well.

My daughter became 25 today but I remember the day we had her like yesterday. Time flies. Do enjoy every moments. They might be painful at times but looking back, they were all precious moments. Congrats!

Congratulations from Scotland, hope all goes well (I remember the days of toddlers - my son and his girlfriend have recently had a son so i'm going through it all over again)

As a father you have certain obligations both towards your family and the kendo community. This is my sensei's kid at age one, I expect no less: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxaa9-Fqki8
That littel one has been watching too many backyard ninjas the way he twirls that sword

Thanks for the moral support guys! It helps! Actually , oddly enough my wifes sleep habits are already disrupted...so shes up every two or three hours.....as such so am I. It's like babys already letting us know what to be in for...LOL! Such a thoughtful little one!
I'm still somewhere between excited and terrified....

So heres another problem, baby proofing a house full of rather "shiny pointy things" .....I'll be packing away some of them and others I think I can wall mount unless I've got them to take to the dojo. It's not so much of a problem early on, but still. Anythoughts?

Currently offering an exciting new update!

We are the proud parents of baby Ryah, 6 pounds one ounce and she already has a great Kiai! Mom and baby are doing well, dads a neurotic mess but this is situation normal. Anyhow, does anyone know how small do they make bogu? Never to early to start!

Congratulations from Japan!

One of the kids in my dojo is six years old; another of the kids is 10 but is the same size as a four-year old. So... I'm sure you'll be able to have fun together soon enough.
