Apparently other countries aren't significant enough to subdivide or even warrant a mention, despite the fact that nearly all the people responsible for providing this very service are from countries not mentioned in the list. |

Yeah they are, it's in "Other". Reminds me of the struggle with the people from Latin America who insisted that they're from America. (Which technically they are) /dont want none of your deutchy markies //I have no idea what a tosser is, it just sounded good here ///apparantly I think i'm on fark |

I was curious so I searched the user database. This list is for active users, which I defined as at least 5 posts and having some sort of activity since the beginning of April. This is based on what they reported for country flag in their profile, which may or may not be accurate (Christmas Island? Really?). Anyways, hope it answers your question MAG. We're a diverse bunch. The US is not the world, not even Kendo World.
Abu Dhabi 1 Argentina 2 Australia 28 Austria 2 Belgium 5 Brazil 1 Bulgaria 1 Canada 27 Chile 4 China 1 Christmas Island 1 Croatia 2 Cyprus 1 Czech_Republic 2 Denmark 3 Dominican Republic 1 El Salvador 1 Europe 2 Finland 5 France 5 Germany 8 Great Britain 5 Guatemala 1 Hong Kong 1 Hungary 2 India 1 Indonesia 2 Iran 1 Ireland 5 Israel 2 Italy 4 Japan 17 Kazakhstan 2 Kyrgyzstan 1 Lithuania 1 Malaysia 3 Mexico 5 Morocco 1 Nepal 1 Netherlands 11 New Zealand 15 Norway 2 Peru 2 Philippines 11 Portugal 1 Puerto Rico 1 Romania 1 Scotland 5 Serbia 2 Singapore 1 South Africa 2 South Korea 2 Spain 2 Sweden 9 Switzerland 3 Taiwan 4 Thailand 1 UK/England 45 United Nations 1 United States 172 Uruguay 1 Wales 3 Zimbabwe 1 |

Neal, I am surprised that the list you posted is so heavily weighted in the US actually. Indeed. We're not the world, but we do appear to be 60% of Kendo World... |

I knew this was gonna be good the minute I clicked...
This very topic is proof to the fact that internet activity does not equal Kendo activity (it's an inverse proportion, sometimes!) [tease] I guess the US just have the largest number of people with too much time in their hands, or wanting to avoid working [/tease] Also: just me!! yay? |

I guess the US just have the largest number of people with too much time in their hands, or wanting to avoid working I often wonder what the real meaning of polls are. For example, does this poll represent where the fine folks of kendo-world are from, or does it measure the willingness of different folks from different regions to participate in a poll? I figure most polls in the U.S. of A. generally represent a particular demographics willingness to lie... -Charles (aka Mister Bitterness and Cynicism) |

I've heard that Canada and the US Midwest have a few kendoka here and there... I forgot about Canada. pffft. I guess I really am a typical American. :\ Sorry Canada! Apparently other countries aren't significant enough to subdivide or even warrant a mention, despite the fact that nearly all the people responsible for providing this very service are from countries not mentioned in the list. I wanted to add Australia/New Zealand/Phillipines area, but then I'd have to take out one of the other continents. I wanted to add Russia but, I didn't remember seeing a single user from Russia on here. I should have added China. Hmmm, maybe it would have been better if I had just done it by continents/areas, rather than countries. Again I only had ten possible poll options to work with. If you were going to do a survey you would think each country major federation would be included, I mean china and russia are pretty big, why didnt they get subdivided, and the land down under is an entire continent, all the other continents got their own division. And Hawaii, I mean they have their own governing body for kendo, last time i checked there kendo was bigger there than in the rest of the USA put together..... And then you have the UK, i'm sure they dont appreciate being lumped in with the tossers in the rest of europe, I mean come on, your euros are no good here. It's hard to understand why one would ask a two part question to a one-dimensional poll. Apparently, people don't move? It's not unusual in any english-language forum. There are other nations that are punching above their weight class here. Australia has 28 representatives which is about 16% of the US count, with a population that's only 5% of the USA's if memory serves. I knew this was gonna be good the minute I clicked... I also think that, it's certain...*ahem* people that tend to be louder...or more expressive...than others. Which I don't think is a bad thing! |

About 38%, actually. Yeah, quite obviously. 90% of my dojo never looks at KW (I think). Unless they are lurking as guests. Pretty good chance of the latter, actually. |

I've heard that Canada and the US Midwest have a few kendoka here and there... When I went to college at Northern Arizona University, I took a linguistics class taught by a woman from Chicago. She said she, as a Midwesterner, was surprised when she heard from Arizonans that she was from "Back East," so one day in class she asked us where "Back East" started. The average answer was "The New Mexico border." |

Pretty good chance of the latter, actually. Anyway, if I want to live in Japan, how is that going to work...? I sorta stick out a lot even among Americans. ( It's not on purpose! It just happens!) |
