Default Morita Kensaku 2nd-dan?
This news is quite old but I thought it was interesting...

Morita Kensaku (http://www.mori-ken.jp)、the current governor of Chiba Prefecture, was called out by the ZNKR for not being a recognized 2nd-dan in kendo.

He was originally in a TV series called ORE WA OTOKO DA!

http://kyoto.cool.ne.jp/ichimura/seishun/kouji00.jpg

He played a kendo club's captain and according to some other websites, many people actually started kendo because of that show. In real life he dresses up in a keiko-gi and does suburi with a shinai for PR shots in his political drives. Apparently for about 40 years he has claimed that he is a 2nd-dan because that's what his school instructor acknowledged his level as.

I'm not casting any aspersions; but people in the public eye need to be careful what they say, especially politicians. The media had a field-day with him.

Oops, sorry.
I searched for "morita", "kensaku" and "morita kensaku" before I made the post and nothing related seem to pop up. I've tried again and still can't find anything...

Searched on "governor" and found this. The names didn't come up because the original post just contains links to the relevant articles.

I am glad somebody else found this. I generally dislike the mass media and their ruthless feeding frenzy, but when it happens to someone who is as big a tit as Morita I feel pretty good. When asked if he would man up and take his nidan honestly, he said 'No. My sensei told me I was nidan and that is that'.

Also the picture of him here: ( http://www.aera-net.jp/summary/090517_000861.html ) is brilliant!

There are a few pics of Morita Kensaku here during the filming of "I am Nipponjin", in which he often does kendo.

Also, here is his newsletter showing him in a kendo pose.

Yes. Myself, Bruce and Bryan from Kendo World plus a good friend Jo from Belgium. Also there were about six guys from Kyumeikan I think.

It was good fun and we each got paid Y20,000 but when I saw the movie, oh my god. I'm no Martin Scorsese but I went to film school and I am familiar with the process of making films. When I saw what was going on while they were filming I was filled with a sense of trepidation - and I wasn't wrong.

Jo and I went to the opening day screening in Shinjuku and apart from us and a couple of random nutters, we were the only people there. I was going to buy it as a momento but after watching it I decided that I wasn't going to waste my hard-earned on it. I rented it to show to my wife. She made me turn it off after 4 minutes. Thankfully, our scene was over in the first 2 or 3 minutes.

I almost pissed myself when I read this. That's harsh.
Well, I guess I won't be making a stop at Tsutaya after all.
