What grade is your Dojo leader / teacher? (Again)
Hi
I asked this question on KW a while ago here. Thought it would be good to ask again and see if anything has changed. What grade is your Dojo leader / main teacher? Many thanks John |
May I ask why it matters?
|
There is such a thing as curiosity...
|
Teacher's ranks is a good indicator of quality/progress of Kendo in a country (outside Japan and Korea). There are only a few countries that can have 7-dan sensei and even in those, lower ranked teachers are still (somewhat) common.
This is a good follow-up from the one the OP did years ago. Unfortunatly my situation remains the same: sensei is still 7-dan, though he tried for 8-dan earlier this year. |
Self promoted 10-dan Golden arches dojo .. SIR!!
|
My sensei's hachidan and his two sons are both rokudan
|
kendo sensei: nanadan, rokudan, and so on.
iaido sensei: rokudan |
A few hachidan (one hanshi) and more nanadan than you can shake a shinai at.
|
is nanadan the highest grade obtainable in iaido? my sensei is also nanadan in iaido
|
I put hachidan because I'm registered with 3 dojos, 2 of which have big men at the captain's table (one of them has 4....and it's not a police dojo!), and the Big O should be one by now anyway.
|
I'm jealous of you all!
I get to train only two-three times a year with a nanadan sensei, and only once did with a hachidan sensei in my Kendo life... http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/frown.gif |
Put Hachidan, Iaido - Hachidan plus a bunch of nana dans, Kendo --- will be starting up again and sensei is kyoshi nana dan (sp?) , Aikido not sure what the head Sensei rank is.

It also means nothing without further comments, like yours saying you're in Japan and voted as such. Numbers and results need explaining. If 100% of people voted "hachidan" we would look for an answer (maybe all voters are from the Keishicho). If we see 80% of people saying their sensei is below 3-dan, we need an answer for that too; nevertheless we would be in the position to say that, as far as the poll is concerned, the level of Kendo development is rather low. Different facts would call for different explanations, of course. I was only aswering the claim that asking these questions is irrelevant. I think it's quite interesting, |
Same as me for kendo and is me for iaido.

My daddy is better than all your daddies. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/biggrin.gif
