I've been watching colts football for about 30 years.
I believe it's important for all kids and all teams to be treated fairly by the umpires, as one would hope would happen at any level of football. At colts level it is vital. AFL and WAFL careers can depend on it in fact. All observers and scouts and other stakeholders want is for umpires to allow all boys to show their wares equally at colts level. Sadly, this season, more than any other I can remember, colts umpires are having a major influence on the results of games. Some of the free kick tallies (plus and minus) have been bordering on the ridiculous. This is the overall tally at the end of round 18 West Perth +58 free kicks more than their opposition Claremont +54 East Fremantle +36 South Fremantle +35 Swan Districts +8 East Perth +0 Peel -8 Subiaco -28 Perth -50 It is said that the umpiring evens itself out over the course of a season. Well, that would appear not to be the case this season. Please note: I would not have written this unless I truly believed that something out of the ordinary was taking place. |
