They wont let up !!
Todays West Page 70 Headline : MORE TALKS IN BID FOR RESERVES TEAMS
Yes Nisbutt is at it again with his continued rant about AFL reserves in the WAFL. Mark Duffeild writes.... The Eagles & Dockers are adamant they WILL PROCEED until they get reserves teams in some form !! Nisbutt then said "The future of both our clubs (now they are in bed with Freo) depends on the strength of all our players and not just the 22 playing AFL..... His next line "THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT WILL GO AWAY" .... No agenda there eh? Believe it or not, the WAFC have now appointed a professional facilitator to broker a deal between the Eagles, Freo and the WAFL Clubs. It has been descibed by WAFC chief executive Gary Walton as "A LINE-IN-THE-SAND" bid to get this appointed consultancy company Bain & Co to progress debate on the issue. I guess "Progress Debate" must mean they are appointed at cost$$$ to come up with the same answers we already have. The consensus is quite simple or are they not listening. The WAFL does not want its 125 year history hijjaked by 1 organisation that has had an incredibly successful existance so far, or the other organisation that has failures on top of failures because of poor decisions, not from anything the WAFL has done. Look at the VFL today. Wasnt it just last week they actually moved a Box Hill game forward to 10am so Luke Hodge could get to the MCG to watch Hawthorn play? They mentioned that on TV and I thought it was a joke. This is what the WAFL will be entering into and they know it.... |
Hopefully the Presidents stand strong on this one Gas. I do fear for the future though. I asked my littlest bloke who he supported in the WAFL last night and I had to run through all the teams for him again. I think this is my fault.
I fear that if one President backs down and wilts that every club will suddenly go for broke and try to get what they can. They will never go away on this one. |
Yes TF the issue will never go away thats for sure.
I hear people say its going to happen regardless and we may as well not fight it and start coming together on the issue. I say that is absolute garbage. Plain & simple, it will kill off the WAFL forever. It will not be a competition ever again. Show any of us how that is a good thing for a comp that has a 125 year history. The fact our leaders even consider the idea is shameful and sad. |
Just a question for you guy in regards to this issue.
What do you think of the AFL starting a reserves competition. Would you be happy with this? I have posted my thoughts over on Goss if you want to go look.though I am sure most of you already know. Just want to know your feelings to it. |

oops, sorry about the above stuff up.
Absolutely the AFL should have a reserves comp - period. They have the BILLIONS to do it, and the WAFL have a league to run. Its not a bloody circus act here. |
the AFL teams need a sideways pineapple reaming...enough said...
|
OK.Gas what do you see as the future of the WAFL if that happened!
I see it that the AFL clubs from all over Australia would be here and other states raping the WAFL sides. There would be no players left to run the WaFL.To me that would be the demise of the WAFL. At least if they play in the WAFL you wont have the full sclae romoval of players to other AFL clubs. Be it right or wrong the two sides here will win.Best in my opinion to have them in your competition than in the AFL reserves. Just my opinion. |
pineapple - sideways.

But which option would you prefer SFFC!There is going to have to be a decision made soon.
I know which way I would prefer it to go and it certainly isnt the AFL reserves sides. |
The thing that sh!ts us anchorman, is since day dot the WAFL has been forced to accept change on a regular basis. And it has done that with verbal resistance, but in the end it has basically accepted all obstacles. Not that the WAFL has had much of a choice in any of it.
And with all of this change (which is enough to fill a book) we are now being threatened with various childish senarios by the AFL clubs themselves (the ones who we gave life). Yes if the AFL reserves comes in it will have an effect on numbers and quality. Much like it did back in 1987 and we survived that. It has taken a good 20 years to get there but the WAFL "clubs" got some pride back through good people who have a terrific attitude and commitment, with very little reward if any at all. And the thanks we get for all that incredible persistance, blood, sweat & tears is for these bastards to rip that last remaining shred of dignity from our souls. I will keep hearing people say we should just conform and accept this. That is all well and good and I agree these mongrels will end up getting their way through choking the WAFL clubs. But that is the only way they will get it. By playing a dirty, selfish game and I hope they choke on it. The answer to your question is.... I want an AFL reserves comp first and foremost & you know why? Because I know it will never happen. The only financial option the AFL clubs want is a take over and raping of the domestic competitions. Its cheaper and easier for them. The system in place now has been proven to be successful and it gives these players some grounding having to rub shoulders with players who actually work for a living. If that does not make them appreciate the position they hold, then I pity their character. This builds a better grade of footballer from inside out. And I will reiterate, what does it do the salary cap? .... Nobody can answer me that. |

And I wont get one because this is the question AFL people and clubs want to avoid. They simply cannot give an answer. I think I have asked this a dozen times or so and not once has anyone been able to answer it. Same again it seems. Unless the Eagles and Dockers can give each WAFL clubs a million dollars a year to allow equality, then it wont be a fair or viable option for the WAFL. In other words this offer of $120,000 to each WAFL club is an insult and a typical response by two greedy AFL clubs. If they want in, they can cough up $4.5 million each per year. Even then it is wrong, but they need to either get real or keep dreamin.... |
