i have never heard of this anecdote - reminds me a little of the eagle who unhappy with his performance in a game interstate ran home from perth airport, steve malaxos passed him on riverside drive and offered him a lift, but he declined and keep on running. jon annear was the player.

Yep I remember that. Talk about dissipline !!

It's time to put another video from the WAFL Video Archive up for you all to enjoy. We thought we would throw it open to the WAFL forum this time around. The first person to post their request (the game must be listed in the archive section of our website at www.waflvideoarchive.webs.com) in this thread will get to see a clip from that game on our youtube channel (also posted to our website)... No prize for second on this occasion, though we will keep requests in mind for future video posts.

the freo deby from 1989 where the sharks snack victory after all looks lost - helped by 2 50m penalties against south. lance durack kicks the goal to help the sharks win a thriller at shark park. this match was a foundation day derby - i think, at the same time there were demostrations in tiananmen square(unrelated to the match tho) which led to the PLA using tanks on their own citizens.
if this is to obscure a match than 1989 drawn 1st semi final, 1988 first semi final spanking of south, 1986 second semi, 1992 grand final would be on my shortlist. thanks waflnut - this thread is cool - appreciate what you are doing archiving this wonderful old footage of our great old comp. |
oh dear i guess i am too late, should not have made that coffee. pretty lame choice sffc4ever. 166mins of two poxy teams - does p stand for perth or peel because i don't remember perth playing in to many final series.
|
SFFC4ever got in first. Will post some of that 1997 Prelim next. Seeing as I'm in a generous mood, I will also post something for you Sun Ra. Of the matches you've requested, we only have two - the 1989 drawn first semi (still breaks my heart losing the replay) and the 1992 GF. Let me know which one of those you want to see and I'll put up a clip.
Thanks for your interest in the site. As I've said before, please help to spread the word. It all helps us to track down more tapes. |

thought the perth boys might want to re-live when they last played finals.... |
many thanks waflnut - 1992 grand final would have to be my choice - purely because we won. that match healed alot of hurt.
|
No hassles. 1992 GF it is, then.
For anyone reading this thread later on today (or whenever), we'll open it up to the forum again at some stage. Make sure you keep an eye out! |
Must reiterate the compliments WAFLnut....
Just unreal being able to see this footage. The WA footy commission should pay you. Great stuff & appreciated by us die-hards. Ive told heaps of people about this site & they love it. Gets the old juices flowing again. Almost forgot what that felt like. |
Thanks, Gasman. It's fantastic just to watch it while working on the transfers. If only a few more die-hards had tapes lying around in their sheds!
Having said that, we're pretty proud of what we've turned up thus far. We can only hope that it continues to grow. Thanks, too, for the referrals. I can't say the email inbox is often full, but it's nice when we receive an email from someone we haven't come across before. |
John Todd is a regular visitor to the area I work at here in Applecross. Saw him drive off the other day. Honestly, the next time I see him I'm going to tell him about the archive and ask if he's got any footage lying around. I'd probably lose it if he said "yes".
|
Sounds great, UFG.
|
SFFC, six minutes of footage from your chosen video (the 1997 Preliminary Final between the Dogs and the Demons) will be online by about 9.15pm. We hope you enjoy it.
|
Gasman, I've still got to load a clip from the 1992 GF for sun ra, but would be happy to take a request from you if you would like to pick a clip from our archive... Just post your choice in this thread.
|
Hey WAFLnut, would you have any footage of the last home and away game between Perth and East Perth in 1978 at Lathlain Park? In particular the last qtr. I think there were about 17,000 people at that game and Peter Bosustow kicked a great goal from outside 50 to put us in front with less than 2 minutes left and that bloody Alex Hamilton (my phys-ed teacher that year) snapped what i believe was goal after the siren. If i can prove I am right that means EP shouldn't have made the four that year and i can protest to the WAFC about that premiership win by EP and we can maybe get the result wiped and declare Perth premiers that year which will give us a richly deserved hatrick of flags?
|
Sorry, DemonsDen. We dont have much home and away stuff from the 70s. Unfortunately, the archive is relying on people's home collection of videos. And not too many of us had VCRs in the 1970s. We only have some Round 21 highlights (WP v EP), some first-semi highlights (WP v SF) and the full GF (EP v P). The game you are talking about was the Round 19 match at Lathlain, which was won by the Royals 16.10 to 15.11. I admire your tenacity in chasing the four points for all these years, though!

Greatest site ever. I could sit and watch this stuff all day. had a laugh watching the 85 montage where peter wilson kicks a goal and then bows to the leederville grandstand followed by a big up yours, and where big ron tries to get around two opponents in the goal square, hilarious. good to see a game at the lovely old Perth oval, which is where the biggest crowd to attend a wafl game was. something like 28 thousand to a derby in the 60s sometime from memory.
|
and watching that 97 south - perth final is strange - the demons playing in september? don't they book their end of season trip for that month...
