Absolutely, oldgoldandblue. I'll be supporting whoever plays West Perth in the finals, starting with your boys next Sunday and WP's opponent in the preliminary final the following week. There's the small matter of the Full Cans having one more premiership than the Mighty Royals but, that aside, there's genuine hatred between the two clubs, "highlighted" recently by Spoongate in 2009 and their supporters' disgraceful attack on the umpires two weeks ago. Of course, East Perth fans are definitely no saints, as is frequently mentioned on FootyGoose. That's the beauty of tribalism in footy - something the AFL is rapidly losing.

well i disagree. ours is the greatest rivalry.a freo derby draws the bigger crowd - the largest attendance for this h & a season was the foundation day derby. just because i am a rational person and slighty more enlightened and evolved than the average person (certainly more than any bulldogs or royals follower) does not mean the ep/wp rivalry is greater.i am a freo person ultimately - this might have something to do with this - and souths have provided many great players to my other side (west coast) so my view of them has been softened. no disrespect to ep/wp - but i don't recall to many west coast players coming from either club. sharks and subi have a bit of a rivalry too. i am a child of the 80's - sharks won the 85 gf against subi, lost the 86 gf, we played 2 second semi's in that decade against them, and lost 2 preliminary finals in a row to subi (88 was a heartbreaker like no other - for the following week claremont capitulated) - don't get me wrong - i ain't wishing them too much luck!

sun ra.....I reckon old G&B means WP and EP have the greatest FERAL rivalry mate....one based on no respect or humility for one another.......sort of like pack mentality.......I say leave them to it.......you're wasting your time trying to make them see any sense.....
which part of London are you mate?.....I lived in Putney Bridge, Roehampton and Wimbledon for a good few years back in the early 90's ......had a ball..........missed my footy though, totally reliant upon the good old TNT magzaine for all the footy results. I missed all 3 of EF 90's flags.....spewing now since EF has gone a good 13 years without a flag!!!! |

1992 was awesome - a little unexpected. we got in front early and stayed there. it was pretty emotional after the siren. john osullivan was on crutches (he did'nt play) he missed 85, played in 86 when they were thrashed and now missed 92. but he and others were all celebrating with the players ,everyone was so happy. i dont miss much about perth. maybe the sunny weather, and my parents, siblings alot. oh and watching the mighty blue and whites. english football is a reasonable substitute tho.
i am presently living in stroud green, up on a hill. on one side you can see ally pally and the other the shard. it is very green , leafy and quiet. nice little drive into work up throu highgate and around the heaf than down a hill into a sewer called cricklewood. i see you lived in sou west london - aussie and saffa strongholds. |
