Could This Be History In The Making?
After today, Swans are a serious contender for the wooden spoon.Has a WAFL team ever gone from premiers to spooners in one season? I cant recall it happening ever in my lifetime.
|
Spoon to Premiers has I know that.
West Perth 1974 spooners, 1975 premiers. |
And South Freo also went from 1969 spooners to 1970 premiers, though I offhand I can't think of the reverse occurring.
|
The wooden spoon race is getting tight isn't it. 4 sides can still win it.
|
Claremont went from Premiers 91 to 7th in 92, only % ahead of WP who 'won' the wooden spoon. Amazingly those two teams met in the next GF!
|
I think peel will win the spoon comfortably, there recent form will not last.

Regardless Peel have done well to go from 0-7 to 5-9. |
Peel's form have been excellent in recent times but I doubt they will be able to maintain that form for the rest of the season. The match against the royals a few weeks ago, peel seemed very slow and lethargic. They could have easily won that game, but they lacked the hunger and intensity. And to avoid another embarrassment they need to lift their intensity and get hungry.

I reckon this weeks game in mandurah against Claremont would have to be the most anticipated game in their history wouldn't it? I never agreed with them entering the competition, and i wish they could have a better name than thunder and a better jumper, but now that they're here to stay i think its great that they are no longer easybeats and can actually have an impact. Tigers by ten goals this week though.

Oh and imagine if they still had the o briens?!
