Yeah, I think Lebron could hang and probably Tim Duncan, then Kobe, but as a team they would be killed.
Duncan?

goes to another unsaid point, the lack of egos the 92 team had playing together.
The current squad has the advantage of more time playing together, though.

Your point is interesting, though, in light of Jordan's comments after James and Bosh went to Miami.

verizon 09-22-2012 02:31 AM

Ouch. Looks like Griffen is hurt. Should've kept Randolph or Cousins.

So no players will ever be as good as that group despite improving equipment, nutrition, etc leading to better overall athleticism?

No, it's not. But Jordan and Pippen were two of the best defenders in the history of the game and they were in their prime. They didn't win 6 rings together by just outscoring the opponent.
They had some pretty good help too, especially the second time around with Rodman.

I think all those reasons you just named had nothing to do with why Pippen and Jordan were so good.
Athleticism had nothing to do with it? Ok.

I'm not sure what that has to do with the talent on the current team being better than the talent on a team that did, in fact, beat the Dream Team.

It could happen. Probably not a series win, but one game? Who knows.
Obviously you need to see the documentary about the Dream Team and how that all went down. Then check out what happened the next day.

Oh, you're talking about Pippen and Jordan? Silly me.

LeBron, Chandler, Iguodala, Paul, among others, are all great defenders.
they aren't pippen and jordan. they may be "great" defenders today, compared MJ and Scottie? not great.

what is this athleticism stuff? we're talking about jordan, pippen, malone, barkley, robinson, drexler here. these guys lack in athleticism compared to who?

And Kukoc.

Well Im sorry, I dont buy the better nutrition, better gym being as a guage to players being better than players from the past. You gonna tell me because Roy Hibbert or Dwight Howard have a better access to fitness that they would own guys like Hakeem and or David Robinson?

The PG's on this current team would absolutely destroy the then 30 and 32 year old Stockton and Magic.

The C's and PF's of 92 would destroy this years team.

It's not as ridiculous a statement as it is being made out to be. But I'd still pick the Dream Team in a 7-game series to win 4-2.
that's great except the dream team could just decide not to play bird or stockton. although you underestimate stockton. they could just as easily have pippen or jordan handle all ball handling responsibilities.

4-0 with the average margin being 15+. it's just not even close.

anyone ever see the video of them going at it in practice? Jordan leading one squad and Magic the other?
they showed clips of it on the documentary, the one in monte carlo anyway which was supposed to be one of the most heated.

Can you imagine the looks Mullin was getting with those guys on the team, not to mention Magic?
Magic must have gotten hurt as well, played 6 of the 8 games. Barkley must've been left alone inside a lot, he shot 71%(Although he was 7 out of 8 from three point land). That's just obscene. Mullin shot an equally obscene 61%.

The 2012 team has some pretty good defensive players on it.
they have 2.

And that's not even taking into account the guys that would've been on the team if not for injury.
Isaiah Thomas wasn't on the Dream Team. It is what it is.

No, because they haven't the skill to go with the gifts. Although Howard would probably give Hakeem problems as far as establishing position.
Think more of guys like Kevin Garnett in his prime versus Malone or Barkley. Or Howard versus Moses Malone.

Pretty tough to guess who got the better of that one...
I will have to check that documentary out.
