Cheran's Muran coming on August 12?
The shooting of Cheran's Muran is complete and will reportedly grace theatres on August 12, 2011. Rajjan Madhav, son of acclaimed Malayalam music composer Raveendran, is the director. Rajjan Madhav has earlier worked as co-director with Mysskin in Anjaathaey, Nandhalala and Yudham Sei. Rajjan's brother Sajjan Madhav will compose its music. UTV Motion Pictures has acquired the release rights of the film recently.

Cheran and Prasanna play the lead roles in this big budget film which also features Jayaprakash, Haripriya, Nikhita and Prathap Pothan in prominent roles. Muran is about two contrasting characters and the events in their lives. Prasanna, who played a powerful role in Anjaathaey, will repeat the act in Muran. Rajjan Madhav has also penned the story, screenplay and dialogues for this film.

Pavitra Srinivasan isn't too happy about it. We can see a negative review in Rediff review soon.

I can't call it bad. But it's not great either. And yes, it borrows heavily from Hitchcock.
75% Strangers in a Train. 25% Tamilized; songs/fights. Prasanna - cool. Cheran - no comments. 1st half - somewhat ok. 2nd half -

But she's given an even bad rating for Vaagai Sooda Vaa too.

Hubla yaaraavadhu paathu sollungappa.

Muran inspired from famous Hollywood film?

The audio release for Muran, the Cheran - Prasanna starrer was held recently. It was well attended and turned out to be a starry event. Directors - Ameer, SP Jananathan, Mysskin, Vijay, and Parthipan were present. Younger stars like Bharath, Sibiraj, were also present. G Dhananjayan of UTV Motion Pictures was the charming host riding high after the success of DTM.

Rajan Madhav, the director and Sanjay Madhav, the music director came in for a lot of appreciation as the trailer and two songs - 'Idhuvarai Illadha' and 'Naan Kanden' were screened. The lyrics for these tracks have been done by Priyan and Lalithanand. All present liked what they saw and had very encouraging feedback.

Cheran and Prasanna were quite excited about their roles and kept the audience in suspense over the actual plot of the film by refusing to reveal any plot details. It has been said that the film is inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's 1959 thriller, Strangers on a Train, but to find out fans will just have to wait for Muran to release.

Tamil dubbed version of Malayalam movie 'Four Friends' in which Kamal played a guest role.

Looks like Muran is getting some good reviews:

sri50 Sreedhar Pillai
Muran- Hearing good reports, Prasanna it seems steals the show. I believe it is edge of the seat kind of thriller. C'ing Friday press show.

JMR_CHN Murali Jayaraman
First half is over. Very good so far. Cheran and Prasanna are doing fine. Jodis are not that good! #MuranPreview

UTV’s Muran is undoubtedly one of the finest thriller to emerge out of Kollywood in recent times.
Debutant director Rajan Madhav has come out with an edge of the seat racy thriller with some melodious music and gritty performances that keep the mercury rising.

Nanda (Cheran) is a soft spoken musician married to Indu (Nikhita). Their marriage is on the rocks as there is no compatibility between them. Nanda bumps into Arjun (Prasanna) a spoiled brat and a rich tycoon who always finds a “thrill in living dangerously” in Bangalore.

Nanda is forced to get a lift back to Chennai in Arjun’s swanky SUV and they bond during the journey. They are as cheese and chalk in their outlook towards life, as they realize during their exciting road trip. The scene in which they try to steal mangoes from an orchard is a rocker. What make the film work big time are the breathless pace and the final twist in the climax.

The story narration teasingly sucks you into a thrilling vortex of crime and punishment without losing out on logic and pace. The idea is novel to this genre in Tamil cinema; two strangers who meet accidentally agree to kill someone the other person wants to bump off! But at times even the most carefully laid out plans go awry.

The two male lead player’s riveting performance makes for compelling viewing. Prasanna rocks as Arjun, the man with ice in his veins (His body language and costumes are perfect) . He has come out with a stunning performance as the mean, diabolic, creepy and psychopathic villain.

Cheran is perfect foil as the soft, suave musician with guilt pangs. Their role and on screen interaction is what makes the film crackle. The supporting cast like Nikhita, Haripriya and Jayaprakash fit in with the characters they portray.

On the downside, two songs could have been avoided and did the same person dub for all the female characters? The film has melodious numbers tuned by Sajjan Madhav which have been shot music video style by cameraman Padmesh. Ithu Varai... is the pick of the album and the background score is impressive. The actual locations have also enhanced the story telling and suspense element.

The film is an ode to Alfred Hitchcock's ‘Strangers on a Train’ as the director has come out with a stylish thriller that attempts to break moulds.

Watch Muran , a slickly made thriller that respects your intelligence.

Verdict- Very Good

Coming from the house of UTV Motion Pictures, Muran, as the name suggests is a movie full of contradictions. Little would the viewer know that the first scene would set the tone for the massive climax! Right from the beginning, Muran races along at a rapid pace, but Cheran with his calm and reassuring presence ensures that the pace doesn't become too much for the viewer to handle. The guy who takes the cake is Prasanna for sure. Right from his appearance to the subtle underplay of a millionaire's son, Prasanna endears himself to the viewer with his charming smile and the twinkle in his eyes.

Nanda (Cheran) is a music director who is making a transition from ad films to movies. While pitching his wares to a producer and director, Nanda becomes one of the spectators to Arjun (Prasanna)'s death defying drunken leap from a terrace to a swimming pool. While returning to Chennai, Nanda's car breaks down, when it is forced off the road by a group of drunken men driving rashly. As fate would have it, the car that Nanda flags down has Arjun behind the wheel, who offers to give Nanda a lift to Chennai. Arjun shows off some more daredevil stunts to Nanda, and says all this is just to experience the thrilling side of life. During the course of the journey, Nanda opens up to Arjun about his life, and how his wife Indhu (Nikita Thukral), hates anything to do with him and most of all his passion in life, music. Nanda goes on to say, how Lavanya (Haripriya) came into his life as a whiff of fresh air, shares all his passions, and and would make the perfect match for him. All this leaves Arjun fascinated, but when Nanda says that his life will just be the same, and there can't be any change in it, as fate has played its hand that way, Arjun begins his tale of how cruelly fate played in his life.

Arjun painfully tells how his father Devarajan (Jayaprakash), always undermines him and never takes him seriously, and is always on the lookout for making money. Linda (Suma Bhattacharya) is a very beautiful but angry girl who is filled with hatred for all the men in the world, as they keep ridiculing her for the way she was conceived by her mother Maria, to a rich man who ran away after impregnating her. Arjun, who loves to take up challenges, and especially beautiful ones like Linda, goes on to change her perception of men, and makes her fall for him. When all is going well between Arjun and Linda, Arjun is devastated to learn that his father has molested Linda, while on a business trip, and Linda asks Arjun to promise that he would not exact revenge on his father, and to be a good boss to his employees, before committing suicide. Arjun tells that though he knows that he can't spend the rest of his life with Linda, he doesn't want Devarajan to live.

While having food at a roadside Dhaba, Arjun and Nanda come across the drunken guys who initially forced Nanda's car off the road. Arjun convinces Nanda that they should do something about these guys, and when Nanda refuses, Arjun says he knows the way that scene would end, and the both of them take on the baddies, and return the gesture of forcing them off the road. After this incident, Arjun casually suggests that he will bump off Indhu, paving the way for Nanda's happy life with Lavanya, and suggests that Nanda take out Devarajan in return. Nanda is offended by this statement, and leaves Arjun, to complete the journey on his own. But, when Indhu irritates Nanda beyond a level, and he feels that he indeed wants Indhu out of his life, it just so happens that Indhus dies in a car accident. On coming to know that it was Arjun who took out Indhu, and that he wouldn't leave Nanda alone without him fulfilling his part of the bargain, Nanda decides to go ahead and help Arjun. But, when Nanda is about to kill Devarajan, he finds out that Devarajan is not all bad as Arjun made him out to be, and is rather a passionate soul. Meanwhile, Lavanya's friend Jayanthi tells Nanda a totally different version of Linda's death, where Arjun is portrayed as the villain.

Whom can Nanda believe? Is Arjun the victim as he tells, or the culprit? Can Nanda just walk out of his deal with Arjun? Why is Lavanya's life in danger? Can Nanda kill Devarajan according to Arjun's plan, and ensure that he is not caught by the authorities? To know the answers to all these questions, catch Muran at a theatre near you. Muran moves at break neck speed, with Prasanna and Cheran holding their forte, and it is very hard to believe that this is the debut movie for the twins Rajjan and Sajjan Madhav, who have handled the direction and music, respectively. Rajjan has ensured that the movie is taut, and does not sag at any point of time, and leaves the viewer wanting for more. Sajjan has captivated the viewers by composing music that just moves with the mood of the film. The melodious 'Idhuvarai' song is sure to haunt the viewers, even long after its over. The superb camera angles add to the viewing pleasure to the viewer, and the costumes of the lead actors suits the situations very aptly! The dialogues are another talking point of the movie, and the dialogue: “Accidents happen all around us.........”, sets up the whole premise of the movie. Prasanna has literally lived his character, and Muran is sure to give his career the long awaited boost, that would propel him into the big league!

All in all, Muran is a must watch film, that will leave you with a sense of complete satisfaction of having watched a wonderful movie.
