I have started shooting for Vaanam: Simbu
SREEDHAR PILLAI, TNN, Jul 11, 2010, 12.00am IST Simbu is turning into a cable guy for his new film Vaanam, the shooting for which commenced yesterday in the city. It has taken Kollywood by surprise as he was to start shooting for Poda Podi in London from the first week of July. In an exclusive interview to CT, Simbu says, “Yes, I have started shooting for Vaanam, which is the remake of the critically-lauded Telugu hit Vedam.” Vedam, said to be a path-breaking film in Telugu, had Allu Arjun, Manoj Manchu (actor Mohan Babu’s son), Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpai, Anushka and Lekha Washington in the lead. The film follows the pattern set by Mexican director Alejandro Gonsalez Inarritu’s classic Amores Perros (2000) in style, a multiple storytelling format where all the stories converge in the climax. Simbu felt that the Telugu film would be a viable proposition in Tamil too. Says the star, “I was impressed by it, especially Allu Arjun’s characterisation. After VTV, I thought this role will be ideal as the character has mass appeal. At the same time, multiplex audiences will also love it. I also wanted to do something as my other projects were getting delayed due to various factors and it is almost 145 days since I shot for a film.” However, the grapevine has it that Simbu is doing the film only because he is smitten by Anushka. Vaanam gives him an opportunity to work with the elusive actress. Simbu smiles, “I have always said that I’m a big fan of Anushka and would love to work with her. I took up the film as the script is good. The A team of technicians from Kollywood — Yuvan Shankar Raja, Antony and Nirav Shah — are working on this project. Also, one of the producers is my friend Ganesh of VTV fame.” The star has given continuous dates to director Krish till the end of the month to complete his part in the film. And the big news is that there will be a mass kuthu song (not there in the original version) picturised on Simbu and Anushka. The movie will be a ‘quickie’ and release of Diwali. Post Vaanam, the hero will leave for the shoot of Poda Podi and start work on Lingusamy’s film in September. |

Bharath signs Vaanam
By Moviebuzz | Saturday, 17 July , 2010, 09:09 In a sudden development, Bharath has agreed to be a part of Vaanam along with Silambarasan and Anushka. With this the project has become big with two top young heroes sharing screen space after a long time. Unlike Bollywood, multistarrers are a rarity in Tamil cinema, as every hero has king-sized ego and are insecure about each other. But little do they realize that it gives their fans, a chance to applause and whistle for their favourite actors at the same time in a single frame. Earlier we had top heroes like Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan coming together but slowly the trend faded out. Now the good news is that, it is back and that too with a bang. With so multiplexes, our young heroes have realised that multistarrer movies are the next big thing. Says Bharath: “ I saw Vedam and loved the film, so when Simbu called me to do the role made memorable by Manoj I was thrilled. Let me tell you that it is not a Simbu film or a Barath film it will be Vaanam, where story is the hero”. Bharath who is always willing to experiment had earlier done Pattiyal which incidentally is the last film in Tamil, where two top heroes came together. On whether he has insecurities of Simbu hogging the lime light Barath adds with a smile: “He is my good friend and in the script all three of us Simbu, Anushka and me have equal roles”. The film which has started rolling with Simbu has Nirav Shah as cameraman and Yuvan Shankar Raja as music director. Anushka will join the unit next week which Barath has given dates in August. August 23, 2010: Silambarasan’s upcoming film Vaanam started rolling before a month and has completed the first schedule now. Since, Simbhu has now flown down to London for the shooting of his other film Poda Podi, director Krish is shooting the portions of the other actors… Vaanam is a multi-starrer film and has equal footage for 5 lead characters.
Apart from Silambarasan, Bharath plays the lead role and Anushka has a powerful role to perform in this movie. Meanwhile, we hear from the closer sources that the producers are planning to change the title Vaanam, as it doesn’t create any sensation. In fact the title has no relevance with the film’s plot. The film is about 5 characters filled with their own dreams. Over a series of unexpected twists and turns, these characters come across each other. Yuvan Shankar Raja has started tuning melodies for the film and Nirav Shah handles cinematography.[/tscii][tscii] |

Saw first look stills. Not to the level of Telugu version... Especially Simbu and Anushka also... Anushka's back pose was really nice in Vedam but here it's not nice at all... Looks like she has put some weight... Simbu doesn't look like a cable boy but like a high school student... Sneha Ullal - Azhago azhagu !! |

VAANAM REACHES CLIMAX
Oct 05, 2010 The shooting of Vaanam, the Simbu and Bharath multi-starrer, is nearing the climax. Literally! Director Krish has already finished filming the portions involving different actors in the movie. Since the plot revolves around the conjuncture of five characters in the climax, it is quite a task to acquire the dates of all the actors. According to sources, only a few scenes and the climax remain to be filmed. Vaanam has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja and he along with Simbu, will be releasing a single track for the promotional agenda on October 15. The film's producer VTV Ganesh is also planning to premiere the movie in London. Vaanam is expected to be released during the last week of November or by first week of December. |

--- @ the lyrics. How cheap! |
