Baana Kaathadi
Banner: Sathyajyothi Films Cast: Atharva, Prasanna, Samantha Direction: Badri Venkatesh Production: T G Thyagarajan Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja Website: http://baanakathadi.com/ Baana Kaathadi Music Review Baana Kaathadi - Yuvan flies high Baana Kaathadi is the latest venture of Sathyajothi Films after the clean family entertainer ‘Jayam Kondaan’. The movie launches actor Murali’s son Adharva who pairs up with another debutante in Tamil Samantha who has acted in ‘Ye Maaya Chesave’ the Telugu version of ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvaya’. Prasanna plays an important role and Karunaas is the comedian. The film is written and directed by Badri Venkatesh and produced by Sathyajothi Films’ Senthil Thyagarajan and T Arjun. The audio of ‘Baana Kaathadi’ was released on 30 April at Sathyam Cinemas in Chennai. Baana Kaathadi's music is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The album features 5 songs and interestingly 4 of them are solo numbers. Two are written by Na. Muthukumar and Vaali, Snehan and Gangai Amaran have written each one song. However the album doesn’t feature the remix of the ‘Aathadi Paavadai’ from ‘Poovilangu’, Murali’s debut film as reported by media earlier. The film is advertised as a ‘Yuvan Shankar Raja Musical’ and there are reasons for that. 1. Thaakkuthe - Singer: Yuvan Shankar Raja Lyricist: Vaali Conforming to Singer Yuvan’s genre, Thaakkuthe is his usual tune. But surprisingly no major instrumentation except the for base drum beats. Bass drum background beats are racier than his usual. Yuvan has relied on simple beats and as a master he handles them well. It works folks. Yuvan knows what we want. Repeated listening will make it a bigger hit. An ARR trait? Pick of the pack. 2. Oru Paithiyam Pidikudhu - Singer: Karthik Lyricist: Na. Muthukumar With funky beats Singer Karthik has tried ‘Oru Paithiyam Pidikudhu’ in a new voice. The pace is also differently slow when compared to usual Yuvan pace for this kind of romantic solos. Again here there is no big orchestration. Simple piano takes the song through. Intermittent male harmony and the female humming is a value addition. 3. Kuppathu Rajakal - Singers: Haricharan, Rahul Nambiar, Sathyan Lyricist: Snehan A street smart song with some ‘Pattiyal’ hangover. The young boys of North Chennai singing in their elements. Snehan who is an expert of this kind of ‘pettai’ numbers has done even better. Nicely matched. 4. En Nenjil - Singer: Sadhana Sargam Lyricist: Na. Muthukumar Sadhana Sargam’s “En Nenjil” is another romantic solo from the girl’s perspective. Flutes, violins and strings accompaniments are all great. Sometimes the soft voice of Sadhana Sargam is over powered by the music. 5. Ullara Poondhu - Singer: Roshini Lyricist: Gangai Amaran This may be an item song to impress the front benchers. Yuvan has not tried too much for this song, yet it has not stooped to routine level. Only this song has used maximum instruments in thee entire album. Gangai Amaran has proved he can write item masala song even for the present generation. Roshini’s vocal fits perfectly for the genre. One striking thing in this album is that the orchestration and instrumentation in all songs is very minimal which is not Yuvan. You may even feel the album has traces of his earlier films like ‘Sarvam’ and ‘Siva Manasula Sakthi’ but it intelligently catered for the tastes of young generations. There are no ritzy beats either. The album may not be have the Yuvan trade marks but strikes you differently. After listening to consecutive chartbusters from Yuvan like ‘Goa’ and ‘Paiyaa’ this may take you by surprise. But…Forget Yuvan’s recent films and listen to the songs of ‘Baana Kaathadi’ fresh. Surely you will like them. Source - Indiaglitz |

Baana Kaathadi Preview
Baana Kaathadi - Set to fly high Sathyajothi Films is one of the oldest and most respected production houses in Kollywood. From its first independent production ‘Moondram Pirai’ in 1982 the banner has been consistently giving the audiences only clean entertaining family films like ‘Moondram Pirai’, ‘Kizhaku Vasal’, ‘Idhayam’, ‘Parthiban Kanavu’, ‘Em Magan’. The most recent one to come out of this banner was ‘Jayam Kondaan’. After the success of ‘Jayam Kondaan’, Sathyajothi Films is now ready with ‘Baana Kaathadi’. The movie was launched in May last year and is now complete and ready for release. ‘Baana Kaathadi’ is a unique film as it brings together a few third generation young talents in the business of films. This film is produced by Senthil Thyagarajan and T. Arjun, the next generation from T.G Thyagarajan household. Similarly it introduces Atharva who is the son of actor Murali. And then there is Yuvan Shankar Raja another new generation doing the music. ‘Baana Kaathadi’ is a different film and the plot is new to south Indian cinema. It’s about two young kite fliers, their life and their environment. The plot shows that Tamil cinema is maturing fast to handle off beat plots. The film is written and directed by Badri Venkatesh who is a product of Tamil Nadu Film Institute. He was also a professor at the institute. He knows his job well and has already got a National award for a short film ‘Vidiyalai Nokki’. The film was shot in Chennai, Gujarat and Thailand. Important scenes were filmed in Gujarat where the International Kite Festival is held every year. First time in Kollywood history a song and scenes were shot with the real crowd at the Kite Festival. Adharva, son of actor Murali debuts in the film. Interestingly it was Sathyajothi Films that gave Murali one of biggest breakthrough films in his career. Murali’s hugely successful film ‘Idhayam’ was produced by the same company. Samantha debuts as the heroine. Samantha is the girl who played Trisha’s role in the Telugu version of ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvaya’. Even in Tamil she played a cameo as the assistant to Silambarasan who later becomes the heroine of his film. Both the new comers have generated a lot of expectations. Prasanna is playing an important role. Karunaas is in charge of the comedy. Baana Kaathadi's music is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The music album features 5 songs and interestingly 4 of them are solo numbers. Two are written by Na. Muthukumar. Vaali, Snehan and Gangai Amaran have written one song each. However the film will not feature the remix of the ‘Aathadi Paavadai’ from Murali’s debut film Poovilangu. Earlier there was a talk in the media of this re-mix featuring in the film. The audio was released on April 30 at Sathyam Cinemas. Richard M Nathan who is an expert in shooting scenes amidst crowd realistically is the cameraman of this film. You must have seen the expertise of Richard Nathan in the recent trend setting ‘Angadi Theru. Rembon is the art director and Suresh Urs takes care of editing. ‘Baana Kaathadi’ is believed to be a realistic romantic film in which the highlight is supposed to be its climax. It is hitting the screens in May. Source - Indiaglitz |

Gautham Menon considers Atharva
IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, July 06, 2010] Murali’s son Atharva who will be introduced in the film ‘Baana Kathadi’ releasing only in August is already a big name. The handsome young man is flooded with offers even before his first film’s release. But Murali who has seen the very top and the very bottom of the Tamil film industry during his career is prudent and guarding his son sensible. Murali is not in hurry and will accept only genuine and meaningful offers for his son. One such offer is already on Atharva’s way much to the delight of Murali. Gautham Menon who gave the biggest break to actors like Madhavan, Suriya and Silambarasan with his films has shown interest in Atharva. The talks are on and Murali couldn’t have asked for better at this stage of his son’s career. Atharva is also very lucky to catch the eye of a director who is nothing but classy. http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/t...cle/58392.html |
