Vamsam
By Moviebuzz Pandiraj, after making the charming and brilliant children film Pasanga, has changed tracks. From a small town he has shifted to a village milieu, in Vamsam. The film is the launch pad of Chief Minister Karunanidhi’s grand son Arulnidhi. Pandiraj has taken care to whip up a winsome screenplay, mixed it well with essential mass elements like Thiruvizha, fluffy romance, songs, father sentiments, and comedy. Arulnidhi wearing mostly a dirty lungi and Sunaina san make-up and their crackling chemistry breathe life into the proceedings. Singampatri is a village in south Tamil Nadu, where the ruling deity is a female. Every year there is a annual Thiruvizha at the local temple which is controlled by the village chief Seenikannu (Jayaprakash) a scheming and cunning man. Anburassu (Arulmozhi) a Botany post graduate lives in the village periphery with his mother (Anupama), a local school teacher. He has been brought up strictly by his mother and he is a model citizen, and prefers to be a farmer. One day he meets Malar (Sunaina), a dare devil and talkative girl from the neighbouring village of Puliyodharam, where her father is the village chief. The big twist in the story takes place when Seenikannu is humiliated by Malar, in front of the villagers. The film has a great first half with signature Pandiraj comedy laced with romance. However in the second half, the tempo slows down and has an abrupt ending. The situational comedy scenes and the way a cow called Asin acts as cupid between hero and heroine is hilarious. Like in Pasanga, Pandiraj takes a dig at the mobile phone which has penetrated deep into the villages of the state, though people still have to climb trees to get reach! For a first timer, Arulnidhi is impressive; he is able to pour plenty of heartfelt emotion into the film’s dramatic moments and has the makings of a star. Sunaina is a revelation and has come out with a realistic performance. Jayaprakash as the bad guy is menacing and Kishore coming in the flashback scenes is fantastic. Ganja Karupu and his comedy scenes are enjoyable. Taj Noor’s music is ok, with the unusual “Usure..” being the pick of the lot. Mahesh Muthuswami’s camera brings the village scenes and Thiruvizha alive. On the whole Vamsam is tailor made launch for Arulnidhi. Pandiraj works on a wafer thin script leading to a predictable climax. It is still watchable for all the comedy in the first half, thanks to ‘Asin’ and ‘Trisha’! Verdict- Average |

Sunaina's performance : :P
Sunaina, by contrast, in her mischievous avatar Sunaina as the courageous village girl is impressive. Sunaina is a revelation and has come out with In the department of performances, a deglamorized Sunaina takes the cake revealing that |
