Perfect cocktail Verdict: No stars.

The film should have been cut short by at least 45 minutes, and seems to send a crass message -- You can be stupid and vulgar but you will still get the rich, beautiful girl.

Siva Mansula Sakthi - A clichéd SMS

The pre-release hype projected the movie as a Valentines Day special. However, it really turns out to be a flick that is entertaining only in patches.

It's a different Jeeva here. After his cumbersome portrayals in recent movies like 'E', 'Kattradhu Thamizh' and 'Rameswaram', one can feel happy for the actor, who plays a boy-next-door. He oozes right energy and enthusiasm in the movie. His choice of costumes is apt for the character and his body language is refreshing.

Yuvan's music is peppy. His songs are tailor-made for the youth. The re-recording provides a sophisticated feel for the film.

However had he paid more attention in his characterization and made the screenplay more cogent, this SMS would be often read and forwarded.

Chennai box office (Feb 13-15)

Tuesday, 17 February , 2009, 12:11

Bala's Naan Kadavul is the Almighty at the CBO second week running. The big screen at Sathyam Cinemas reported 98 percent for the second weekend from 12 shows, which is truly fantastic. At number two is Vikatan Talkies Siva Manasula Sakthi, which has taken a good opening in eight Chennai screens, thanks to its high voltage publicity campaign in television. In the third position is Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu, whose collections are going up day by day, but does not have the clout to increase shows in multiplexes nor get better screens. At AVM Rajeshwari, the best screen where it has four shows the film is doing extraordinary business. In the fourth position is Padikathavan, which has fallen with the release of new films. Sun Pictures foray into English film distribution has not been as successful as its Tamil releases, with Outlander, taking a poor opening and is at number five.

SMS...overall an OK film. The movie runs for almost 2.45 mins. Santhaanam who usually irritates on big screen has done a good job here. I liked the songs even more on screen. BGM was OK, the bits used for 'cellphone jokes' was really cool. Yuvan has used the same kind of flute piece coming in 'kadalOram from KPKP' for BGM here in couple of places. A fun film targeted at youth if you don't look too much into it. If you're a Yuvan fan, don't miss it.

25 successful days for SMS!
Kaanchan [March 10, 2009, 3:21:54 PM]

Violence is the in thing in cinema today. Or so we thought up until the Jiiva-Anuya starrer Siva Manasila Sakthi hit screens a few weeks ago.

It's a simple love story with no mass heroism! In Siva Manasula Sakthi, Jiiva has taken pains to show he is a versatile artist by accepting completely contrasting scripts and very different roles. Each time, he has proved that he has what it takes and that he is serious and passionate about his career. His love interest is played by pretty little thing Anuya, who comes off as one delicate darling, yet she has managed a powerful performance. She has paid quite a lot of attention to get her lines right. Tamil being an alien tongue to her, her effort is commendable. Adding colour to the love story is Yuvanshankar Raja's amazing music, with 'Oru Kal' in his voice and Adnan Saami's, the main highlights of the album.

Directed by Rajesh M. and produced by B. Srinivasan under the Vikatan Talkies banner, SMS has completed 25 successful days in theatres, and shows no signs of stopping. We congratulate the entire team and wish them many more milestones!
