"Verdict: Despite its applause worthy scale of production, Dashavtar is an exhaustive watch. What promises to be Kamal's power of 10 is eventually a 10-pronged torture on the senses."

Rating: 2/5

"The producers of Dashavtar were looking at selling the film for Rs 12 crores, but unfortunately it did not get any buyers. Hence the film’s release kept getting postponed. Now, finally the producer decided to release the film on commission basis through Shringar."

avvalavu kevalamaana expectation that it couldnt even garner Rs.12 crores initially, despite its recent giant success in Tamil ??

"Ram Gopal Varma buried himself in his self-glorification called, 'RGV Ki Aag'. He has found a serious contender in Kamal Haasan."

aaga mothhathil, DASHAVTAR seems to be getting nice 'aappu' from left right and center of the media - indha azhagula, the only chance wud have been the publicity, which being lowkey seems to be backfiring

"Some movies are interminably long. Some, terribly painful. Some, gimmicky, some self-indulgent. Some are dominated by one actor. Some seem to have been abandoned by the editor. Some are bizarre, some leave with you a headache. Some make you wish they had two intermissions. And some offer you the ‘making of ‘ bits with the movie itself; they don’t wait for the dvd. This one is a combination of them all."

"2 hrs, 40 minutes of a bad thing makes it a gimmick gone horribly, self-indulgently long."

Considering Kamal is planning a full Bollywood feature after 19th step, he need some buildup to recapture the lost Bollywood fans (from the 80s especially), Dasa need to do well here. Hey Ram was too long ago, as was the remake of Avvai, and I say this because audience have too short a memory.

some good news to cheer u people, esp anban n bala

times of india has come with a pretty decent review of the movie in its mumbai edition with a 3 star rating. i know almost the whole of the multiplex going audience in mumbai follow the TOI rating pretty seriously. so i hope the collection status should improve to at least 75-80% over the weekend rather than the 40-50% on day 1.

once the first weekend is over with 75% occupnacy, then the word of the mouth will definitely pick up. lets see.

i am not able to find any online link to the review. hence i will post the hi -res photograph of the article.

whatever we get as a collection is a bonus.. :P
surely there would have been costs involved in getting it released in the North. Let's hope the film manages to recover them and earn a decent profit if possible.

The failure to release the movie while it was hot (last year when publicity for the film was at its peak - with Jackie Chan to add to it) may have cost the film dearly.

Dasavtharam Movie Review

The background score hammers incessantly making you immune to the melody (or the lack of it). The story is as far-fetched as the characters and the ultimate climax is the understanding of how the Tsunami of 2004 came about. At least that is what the makers are driving at. There are also two parallel stories running across, one of Kamal Haasan the sting operator (a fearless TV reporter) and another of Kamal Haasan the kung fu expert from Japan who is out to avenge his student's death. Add eight more Kamal Haasan's, and you get the drift of the title of the film!

CHECK OUT: Can Kamal Hassan entice the Audience?

The only actor working hard is Kamal Haasan who has to sit through various sittings of makeovers. The movie sometimes, borders on insanity. In the midst of a very intense scene, there's suddenly a PJ. You wonder what the intention of the director was - comedy or action? The action scenes too get robotic after a while, with another Kamal Haasan, the villain, jumping and flying around, reminding one of Arnie in TERMINATOR.

As for the story, everyone is after a vial, which contains a deadly virus. The vial surprisingly reaches India, Tamil Nadu to be precise, from an American laboratory. And following it for its safekeeping is scientist Kamal Haasan. The rest of the plot is of every Kamal Haasan crossing paths, some in search of the vial while others thrown in for comic relief.

In between all this, there's also Mallika Sherawat and Asin. Asin comes in twice; the first time is eight hundred years before, somewhere in the 1200s. She appears again eight hundred years later. No, she is no relative of the previous Asin. And no one found it necessary to explain the connection between the two.

Ram Gopal Varma buried himself in his self-glorification called, 'RGV Ki Aag'. He has found a serious contender in Kamal Haasan.
bold lines - enna azagaa adatha understand pannirkkaanga. ivanga reviews ellaam oru matteraa?? muthalla computer chip. ippo tv reporter. oru velai hindi-la vera maathiri dub pannitaangalo?

Ennappa,
Oru grudge oda ellarum review panna maadhiri irukku.

Idhukku Hindi le release pannamale irundhirukalam.

Kamal Sir,feel you are better off in the South. The media might be biased against you but it is nothing compared to the way your films are ripped apart in the North.

Let them be happy with their SRK's and Aamir's and Salman's and Akshay's and Saif's.

Q: There is also a lot of talk about the use of chaos theory in the film ... especially across the cyberspace.

The kind of reactions my film has received online is flattering. I have read some unbelievable interpretations of the film. There are communities dedicated to explaining the film to those viewers who couldn't grasp it. Even I have been introduced to so many aspects of the film, which I wasn't even aware of while writing it. I must confess I have written what I wanted. But fans have beaten my intelligence. They are far cleverer.

Q: Dasavathaaram, was supposed to rival the hysteria over Sivaji. Are you satisfied with the results? Has the franchise lived up to your expectations?
The facts and figures speak for themselves. Compare the collections of Dashavathaaram and Sivaji (especially overseas) and the numbers will tell if I should be satisfied or no. I hope to achieve pan-India success with Dashavtar. But even if that doesn't happen, my movie is already a super-hit – loved by a huge chunk of the country's population.
