The second part was dragging too much, and I didn't like the climax. The first part was too good. But I don't know how this new guy is gonna act or even Tamanna for that matter.I thought Laila would have been a better choice for this character. |

..intha novel avaroda fans ku romba pidichathu vera... I have some optimism that this film should click. Why? 1. As most of Sujatha's works have been massacred on screen and by now his admirers have resigned to the conclusion that nobody can do justice to his works, the expectations will be quite low 2. Before his demise, at least for a few years, Sujatha had been involved in some extremely successful projects in TF and possibly got hold of the formula for successfully transforming his stories into movies and shared the same with this team. 3. Despite being dated (20+ years), when I re-read yesterday the part II, his grasp of U.S. just amazed me and interestingly not much has changed, despite globalization / IT diaspora / technology increase / internet etc. So, things should vibe with people IMO as most emotions portrayed are quite timeless. (There has to be some technology related updates, though, and the director cannot simply stick to "every line as written"). Looking forward to this movie! |

I too feel this movie will click because of its story...When i started this thread, i thought it will remain 'dead' until the movie gets released...Im surprised to see the overwhelming response to this thread..Power of sujatha |

Also, trunk calls and letters were the only modes of communication (in the first half) and a major twist is built upon that. Now with cellphones and stuff there must be changes in the script. There are some thoughtful additions and modifications from the original plot in the movie. The concept of love letters in the novel is replaced by the glamour of mobile calls and messages. Anandha Thandavam is dense in details; most of the incidents that occur in the novel find a place in the film too http://tamil.galatta.com/entertainme...Thandavam.html |

For a story like this, IMO, 4 to 5 minute songs will be big irritations. If the director is brilliant, he should be able to merge few song phrases here and there in the narration (and not foolishly pack off the hero/heroine to Alps to do group dances).
Also, since people like Shankar have already used to the full many of the "foreign attractions", less focus on showing places should help in making the movie crisp and enjoyable (was this story the inspiration for Shankar to use the name 'Madhumitha' for Jeans?) But then, these may be high expectations -forgetting the reality of the TN audience mentality- I think. I think Sujatha wrote part II immediately after his first ever trip to U.S. and that effect can be felt in most narrations. And definitely it caused a big impact among TN youths those days in adding some glitter to the American dream (which got multipled many times during the period of Jeans). I will watch this movie - without reading any review or opinion. Let's see how the team measures up! |

(was this story the inspiration for Shankar to use the name 'Madhumitha' for Jeans?) (9) Pirivom Sandhipom - Part I and Part II - A Love story set in Tamiraparani and then travels to Newyork. Captures glimpse of NRI Tamils life in early 80's. A precursor to Jeans movie. Incidentally the heroines name is Madhumitha in both the works. |

(I've seen the movie but don't remember the credits - However, it has nothing to do with pirivOm sandhippOm story - except the name & some locations) |

Says Tamannah: “Every woman will relate to Madhumita and I consider it as one of the challenging roles that a heroine can get today”. It is an emotional and intense love story that will bring a lump in your throat. The climax that happens in New York is one the most touching scene shot recently in Tamil cinema Gandhi Krishna was all praise for Tamannaah’s involvement as Madhumita and he says that the entire unit was in tears after they shot the climax. It is a real adaptation of the story as the names of characters and locations where the story happens from Ooty, Papanasam to New York is depicted brilliantly by Gandhi Krishna http://sify.com/movies/tamil/imagega...llery=14783618
