Surya is yet learn how to cry?

Have not noticed him having that weakness.

Does not he cry good in "friends" when he explains about "losing his brother" or something?
I thought his emotional scenes seemed forced in Friends (as did Vijay's). I'm just saying that that was one weakness imo of Surya's and progressively he's been handling emotion with ease too In Vel, his pain and tears came naturally.

Well, kolly, I thought the biggest plus of Surya is he scores in emotional scenes pretty highon screen, more than any young actors.

His voice is a big plus which even his dad never had.

His weakness is that he is not a good dancer.

I dont think any young actor knows how to cry, not just Surya.

Ok, thamizh. I get it, you think Surya is very good at emotional scenes. This was just something I noticed. My only problem with his emotional scenes was when he was crying. I know that it's not easy for actors to cry on screen, but actors like Ajith are really good at it. Vijay used to horrible initially, but he slowly got better.

Many people didn't like Surya's performance in Friends, especially the emotional scenes. If you noticed I only said he was weak at emotional scenes in Friends, other movies I just had a problem with his crying. I'm just saying that with each and every film Surya got better. He was never really horrible, but I always thought that it was something that he could improve on because he was very good at everything else.

You seem like a huge fan of Surya

:P
maja did run for 100 days, i am sure about that :P

unlike kamath, i don't say that kireedom didn't cross 75 days ... but saying that when it was released only 1 month 1/2 ago is weird
YES YES
I dont know why that ajithfan lied. But kireedom ran for 100 days in a theatre in kanchipuram ( I dont take that.. But if the logic can be applied toMaja then I think we can apply the same to kireedom too)

Surya shines

On hindsight, it was a smart move by Surya to do Hari's Vel which turned out to be the Diwali winner. About 10 months back, when he decided to do the film, a section in the industry said it was a foolish move as basically he is a 'Multiplex and A-class hero', and his films had not worked in B & C.
Take a look at Surya's career graph, his biggest hits Khakka Khakka and Ghajani were super hits in urban areas mainly in 3 C's- Chennai city, Coimbatore and Chengalpet (area bordering Chennai city). The overseas and Kerala audiences also took a liking for him along with the elite city based media. All these factors worked to make him a star, though the trade felt that he had no penetration in B & C.

Now Vel has rectified it, as it is a bigger hit in B & C than in his traditional city strongholds. Says a leading Madurai based distributor: " Surya's slow but steady rise has been phenomenal and the family audiences like him because he has a good boy image and married happily to Jyothika all these factors are crucial in our area. Added to that take Vel DCR (Daily collection report) for Madurai area, you will find that the collections are better on 10th day of its release than on the second only because of family audiences."

Surya will now have a tight rope walk as he has to cater to his traditional and new found audiences. It looks like next year is going to be memorable for Surya as he has Gautham Menon's Vaaranum Aayiram, a film targeted at the youth and multiplex audiences and has also AVM's, K.V Anand directed film which will appeal to all classes of audiences.

Vel's victory march!

Surya's Vel is all set to become his biggest hit. Today (Dec 27), the film celebrates its 50th day in 71 screens across Tamilnadu, and is the Diwali 2007 winner by a mile!
Hari has made Surya the new poster boy in B & C centers. If you see the collection pattern of the film, it is doing better in these areas than 'A' stations of Chennai city, Chengalpet and Coimbatore. Out of the 71 screens where it celebrated 50 days in Tamilnadu, 55 screens are in B & C.

Vel is rocking in Madurai, Salem, TK, NSA (North & South Arcot) and TT areas. It is the first Surya film to do well in the heartland of Tamilnadu where commercial mass masala rules. Says a leading distributor in Madurai: " What happened this Diwali was that the favourite horse Vijay sir's ATM was purely a city film and our audiences rejected it, at the same time they lapped up Surya sir's Vel targeted at them".

It clearly means that Surya has put a foot into Vijay country, and he has the making of a mass hero. No wonder K.V Anand is going to make Surya's next film for AVM, targeting this particular segment of the audiences.

What made Vel, such a big hit in rural Tamilnadu? Surya in a dynamic double role, Hari's racy narration and packaging that will be understood by the B & C audiences, Vadivel's comedy track and Asin's mass appeal with family audiences; all this was in the right proportion.

It's very average. Definitely nowhere near Hari's previous masala entertainers. Surya was good. But since ATM was a disappointment & with Surya's pull over Dhanush's pull I guess, it won.

I would rate ATM above VEL content wise and as a movie.
VEL was a disappointment for me except surya.
The first & last 30 mins of th emovie. Asin's makeup
Loads of characters that have no purpose.
It was crude in its own way. The dialogues reminded TR and perarasu esp

"Nallannai nalla eriyum
mannannai masa masannu eriyum
etc etc "

VEL is nowhere near saamy or even thaamirabharani. (Take prabu and nadhiya into account)
