I'm a writer and an occassional marketing dabbler. Moving into writing was definitely an entrepreneurial path as I spent many years painting cars before redundancy drove me towards a recession-proof business instead.

Best move I ever made.

I sell other peoples' products and occasionally invest in having my own produced. My strength is marketing those products and making commissions from them. Beats working for a living.

Hi guys

I am new to this forum and it is great. I am a web developer and search engine marketing expert based in Sydney. We have built about 500 websites in over 10 years of trading. I have recently just starting writing online articles also. Lovely to meet you all.

Really sorry I didn't see this sooner.

Did I find it hard to get paid? No. Did I struggle to get paid what my writing was worth? Definitely, and a time came where I had to draw a line in the sand. It's the old value thing again. I originally failed to place enough value in my work so my clients gave it no value either.

Without being too big-headed here, but I soon realised my work was much better than the work my competitors were producing. I reworked my strategy and stuck to it. I turned away dozens of jobs on the basis of price because I refused to work for peanuts. My work deserved more than that.

Today, I rarely go looking for work. I've earned a reputation that helps me bring in new customers on recommendations and it's brilliant. I get qualified leads. My new clients get a capable, experienced writer.

If I had to explain what I do, I guess the answer would be that I experiment!

I make multiple small income streams online. I still rely heavily on what others often see as being dated but I had to start somewhere. Adwords, for example, still brings in some of my earnings. I sell a few products, flip the occasional website and even do a little design work. I still have my own day job while I'm trying things out but I don't want to be working for somebody else forever.

I don't really feel like an entrepreneur because I just took what I had been doing for 20 + years and did it for myself, rather than for someone else.

Like Rigmonkey, I am a writer that dabbles in marketing/pr/communications consultancy and project management. I have very broad comms experience so can help SMEs with all sorts of business communication. And yes, I did find it hard to get paid what I am worth at first, and I do have quiet periods (just coming out of one now). But I also have two young kids and an aging mum, so quite honestly, I would rather make time for them than work my arse off for clients who don't value what I do.

But those that do value it come back time and again, and refer me to their contacts, which means I, too, rarely have to look for work.

Cheers

Nicole

Hi Everyone,
I'm a network marketer, working with success education software - fantastic business with a great community of like-minded people, great and consistent training and incredible compensation. I don't think anything compares - you might think MLM but it really doesn't operate as such. I get to talk directly with people who have made millions in the business and they are right there in the trenches with us, working their business every day even though they are likely set for life. It's truly inspiring!!

What type of writing to do specialise in? I'm always looking for good writers to help with my marketing exercises - I love online marketing, I hate writing....

I have created a number of websites before some have been a small success, others, not at all, but i'll keep going

I love the idea of tying a different formula to get it right - it's all about persistence anyway

I would have to agree with some of the other people on here, I don't quite feel like an entrepreneur as I am still working on my business. It will all come together soon though

Hi all, I started out in 2008 after working as an IT Technician, always having an eye for art and computers/technology (building websites since 1999 as a hobby), I decided to use my skills and go into business for myself. Primarily online, I sell web hosting and domains, and early last year started a new business (Forced Eyre), which is a website for the automotive community of Australia. So I'm pretty passionate about cars too, so they both go hand in hand!
