I tend to believe you are born with an entrepreneurial mindset and it is always something that is niggling in the back of your mind.. you just need something to give it a kick start! Its basically the oldschool version of "The Secret". Has anyone listened to it? |

For me it was a boss I had a long time ago were I first did my apprentiship he
gave me books by dale carniege how to win friends and influence people I found this was the point that changed my life and the incesent need to prove everyone wrong. I also had a really good family my old man said to me if I could afford to buy my own car when I got my license this was my learners mind you that I could drive it around. so some how by working and saving I found the money to buy it and he had to eat his words and let me drive around by myself on my learners. also I bought my first house at nineteen and everyone I knew thought I was an idiot my girlfriend at the time left me because of it to (I couldn't afford to live in it so I moved home). Ialso read bransons book screw it just do it and found it to be very good... |

I wouldn't say there was a magic moment...
I was kind of raised this way, my father is a great man and is so happy with life, he tends to have the mind set that money comes and goes but its about making life the way you want it. I cant really remember how I came to be like this, I started taking things seriously in 2004 when I registered for an ABN and business name and was 15 at the time. I talk to my friends daily about having a positive and good mindset on things. Gerryonline, was it that book in particular or were you going through a period in your life where you wanted out of 9-5 and so on, what was the other factors to this 'moment'? What was the reason you read Rich Dad, Poor Dad? |

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with the Rich Dad books; Jo I was the same as you after reading one of his books I bought about 6 of them and read them all through and thought they were great and still do.
I then went to one of his seminars here in London and it was an extremely hard sell from him and his team to buy his education and property investing courses for a couple of thousand dollars a go, so much so that they almost didn't let you leave unless you handed over your credit card! I managed to escape, but heard of people who did the course and said even that was a hard sell to buy another more advanced course! So back to original questions, I think I have always had this sort of mindset but it was just never unlocked.. when I was 15 I started selling computers to kids at school from parts I bought at swap meets, this made me some cash to have fun with, but then I was forced on the 9-5 trail.. during which I did run businesses on the side. The time I think it was really unlocked was when I was flying to Europe for work, I grabbed a copy of Richard Branson's 'Screw it Lets do it' book and it really hit home, that if I was to get where I wanted to that I really needed to change my lifestyle and make it work for me and not someone else! I tend to believe you are born with an entrepreneurial mindset and it is always something that is niggling in the back of your mind.. you just need something to give it a kick start! |

I have been thinking for a while that there was a point in my life that changed the way I thought about life and work, basically I read the book Rich Dad, Poor Dad and thought there has to be more to life than the 9-5 slog.. from that point on my mindset changed and I have started to see things in a different light.
So when was your magic moment? |

Hi Gerry,
Me too! Robert Kiyosaki changed my way of thinking about 4 yrs ago. I have bought the board game Cashflow for Kids to start my children off on their financial education as early as I can. I put that book down and read every other Kiyosaki book there was to read in about 2 weeks. It's funny though, I have given it to various friends and it hasn't done the same thing. It's amazing how many people just can't change their way of thinking.. . .or can't be bothered. . . Regards Jo (newbie) |
