I think that if you bring a full expression of who you are and all of your commitments in your world to your career, all will be perfect, even in the first job you land in isn't. Because if you're being open and being present to what's important to you, it will eventually lead you in the right direction. My two cents.

Getting To The Why

I recently finished college, and like all college graduates, was faced with the exhilarating/terrifying possibility of the rest of my life. For me it was a time of introspection, asking myself what I was really up to in the world and what I really cared about. As time went on the question of what I was going to "do" became increasingly urgent, and I put myself under increasing pressure to have a good answer.

Reflecting on the training that I took through Landmark, I eventually had a huge breakthrough that has informed my life ever since: far more important than WHAT I did, was WHY I did it. If you're doing something because it is an expression of who you are and what your commitments are in the world, it will be far more fulfilling - and make a bigger difference in the world - than a prestigious/important job that you took because you were worried about "looking good."

I think you're on to something really important here. I spent a lot of time after college looking for the 'right' job and the 'right' relationship - as if among the millions of possible jobs and people to be with, I was going to find that special one which was perfect and would fulfill me. The insight I got in the Landmark Forum, which isn't actually the same as your insight but is somewhat related, is that there was no 'right' job or person to be with. In fact, what I actually brought to a job or relationship was a thousand times more important that who or what I chose.

So I think that if you bring a full expression of who you are and all of your commitments in your world to your career, all will be perfect, even in the first job you land in isn't. Because if you're being open and being present to what's important to you, it will eventually lead you in the right direction. My two cents.

That's a perfect way to put it - to pull the two ideas together, once you get clear on WHY you're doing something, you get the power to shape whatever it is you're doing, to make it fit with what you want. Circumstances are malleable. You just have to have an idea of what you want to do with them.
