My car is a manual. Matt never could learn until I tried teaching him. I've taught three people, I believe.
My parents couldn't teach me to save my life. A friend in HS taught me at 2 AM in the middle school parking lot during relay for life. I really think it depends on how the person teaches you, like how they explain it. My parents just explained the mechanics, and my friend taught me how to feel the car. I'm a firm believer in learning barefoot. You can connect better to the car that way. |

Repitition is the key. When we first got married, my wife did not know how to drive a stick and that is all we had! It was survival baby! We lived on a hill in San Diego. I remember she used to back out of the driveway and then coast backwards down the hill to the bottom so she did not have to negotiate using the clutch on the hill. Lol! Now she is a pro and we have a 1982 Fiat Spider she can stay practiced up on.
![]() Actually the easiest are clutches with short throws like the Fiat. I think a U.S. truck with a manual is harder due to the longer throw, at least the last manual U.S. truck I drove. |

I love manual, it feels like one is more in control....except, in downtown Seattle. Those f*ckers get right on your tail when u r on an uphill. u gotta let go of the clutch and rev it up and try not to hit the sucker who is on your bumper. That got old REAL FAST!!!!!
It's funny I get in my hubby's truck and reach my hand for the non-existent gear shift, and damned if I don't have to concentrate not to use my left foot for the brake thinking it's the clutch LOL |
