Ford, Chrysler and GM's contributions after 9/11

'CNN Headline News did a short news listing regarding Ford and GM's contributions
to the relief and recovery efforts in New York and Washington.

The findings are as follows.....

1. Ford- $10 million to American Red Cross matching employee contributions of the
same number plus 10 Excursions to NY Fire Dept. The company also offered ER
response team services and office space to displaced government employees.

2. GM- $10 million to American Red Cross matching employee contributions
of the same number and a fleet of vans, suv's, and trucks.

3. Daimler Chrysler- $10 million to support of the children and victims
of the Sept. 11 attack.

4. Harley Davidson motorcycles- $1 million and 30 new motorcycles to the
New York Police Dept.

5. Volkswagen-Employees and management created a Sept 11 Foundation,
funded initial with $2 million, for the assistance of the children and victims of the WTC.

6. Hyundai- $300,000 to the American Red Cross.

7. Audi-Nothing.

8. BMW-Nothing.

9. Daewoo- Nothing.

10. Fiat-Nothing.

11. Honda- Nothing despite boasting of second best sales month ever in August 2001

12. Isuzu- No thing.

13. Mitsubishi-Nothing.

14. Nissan-Nothing.

15. Porsche-Nothing. Press release with condolences via the Porsche website.

16. Subaru- Nothing.

17. Suzuki- Nothing.

18. Toyota-Nothing despite claims of high sales in July and August 2001.

Whenever the time may be for you to purchase or lease a new vehicle, keep
this information in mind. You might want to give more consideration to a
car manufactured by an American-owned and/or American based company.

Apart from Hyundai and Volkswagen, the foreign car companies contributed
nothing at all to the citizens of the United States ...

It's OK for these companies to take money out of this country, but it is
apparently not acceptable to return some in a time of crisis. I believe
we should not forget things like this. Say thank you in a way that gets
their attention..

Not trying to be a USA basher before anyone jumps all over me again but in general, American cars are crap! I'd rather have a decent car that a crap one where money goes to the red cross, thats not what I'm looking for at all in a car.

all of those 'foreign companies you mention base they're sales plan on selling a quility product for the price........and to be honest apart from the harley i'd go for the beemer or audi any day

yeah was looking at it as I didn't know the brand. Lovely rally cars eh... I think my son and husband would have known what you were talking about. I got a good deal on a new VW jetta this week only 18,000kms on it...someone traded it in for a Touareg... we'll be picking it up for 18,000 tax included and snow tires...great deal that. not enough...for sure...but that is changing. They have the most efficient hybrids, more efficient than toyota...and the Ka will come to the US by 2010. But England knows these things...Ford had very good low mileage vehcile in Europe now: Ka, Focus...but the problem is they all drive on the wrong side of the road!

I have a Ford and it works for me. Starts up every time and gets me where I want to go. My first car was a Ford too and it was dependable. I've had good luck with Ford so far.

Even if Ford is building better or as good as Toyota, they still have screwed their name over. If you say "I bought a reliable car, it's a Ford." People kind of look at you like, "are you serious?"

If you say, "I bought a reliable car, it's a Toyota." People will definitely agere with you.


I know way too many people in North America that have traded their NA cars in once the warranty was done, and you guys can say what you want, but when it boils down to it, they traded it in because after 100,000 km! their vehicles couldn't be trusted to be reliable.

With a Toyota or Honda, you'll get 300,000+ km out of it with proper maintenance. The day I see a Ford with 300,000, I'll believe they build the same quality as Toyota.

I've got a Blazer. My dad drove it to work every week day for about three years. Now I'm driving it to school four days a week. Neither me or my dad have had any problems with it, just regular repair work (bearings just went out on the front.) We got it with 7K miles (I think) and it now has close to 80K. Still drives like the day we got it.

Lol, bragging about vehicles with 80k miles on it, I guess that's great for a domestic.

My winter beater is a 93 Mazda, it's got 175k miles on it, original engine, power everything works.

Trust me, that blazer won't hit 150k miles
