Default Merc threatens to walk if FIA comes down hard on McLaren BLACKMAIL
http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/260420...d-mclaren.html

Mercedes-Benz has dropped its clearest hint yet that a harsh penalty from the FIA over the Melbourne ‘lies’ scandal implicating McLaren-Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton could lead to the German manufacturer pulling out of Formula 1. brawn and force india may well be with out engines

I can't say I'm surprised, I think that this is the same argument that Renault gave a couple of years ago when they were caught with plans of the McLaren car, while McLaren were heavily penalised for having Ferrari plans.

Max is already set on F1 without manufacturers thanks to his proposed 'standard engine'.

He wouldn't think twice about Mercedes' comments either way.

Ive said this before and ill say it again: all the teams should walk away and form their own formula. FIA-less and Bernie-less. well run, unbiased, not greedy, for the fans, exciting, cheap, a proper world championship instead of this 4 continent thing we have goign now

This isn't much of a warning shot.

Sorry Mercedes but McLaren are cheating, again.
What do you want that FIA to do? Cuddle them?

I hope that Mercedes will stay at least for this season! Damn, a Mercedes-powered team LEADS the championship!

If McLaren gets a harsh penalty (which I doubt actually), why don't Mercedes consider supporting Brawn instead?

They will. But then Lewis will be in a Brawn... Where else could he go?

So true. I think Mercedes need to realise it's not them that the FIA are after but McLaren. Up until spygate McLaren had a pretty clean record but since then they've done their best to cheese the FIA off. Now they're just hoping for the typical anti-FIA backlash to come and somewhat cover the fact that the one people at fault here are McLaren. If they'd just either not done it in the first place or come clean straight after the hearing we wouldn't be here.

Donkeys of the season for sure.

Rumours are for 30 pts penalty in the WCC.

What happens if they end up with negative points? Do they have to pay Bernie money then?

Flavio "I want money" Briatore has hinted that he wanted Brawn GP to get none of the television rights money from 2009.

The short answer is that the monied interests within the sport are turning inwards, and thanks to internal backbiting and the FIA's incredible management policies, Formula One is starting to look like it has a very short shelf life indeed.

WRC part II anyone?

McLaren would have a change of ownership. Daimler AG owns 40% of the McLaren Group. Given the Global Financial Elephant, Daimler AG could very well sell their interests but the problem is to who?

Also, given that Ferrari also threatened to quit last October, I'm wondering what sort of messages are being sent to the FIA? With Ferrari, Mercedes, Toyota and Renault, all threatening to quit, it doesn't leave very many entities left. Do I have a sniff of a £30m revolution in the air?

I hear (from an anonymous source) that Max and Bernie have invested heavily in Cosworth stock!
