Max Mosley says the FIA is “increasingly of the view” that the use of battery-based Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems (KERS) in Formula 1 should be outlawed in favour of mechanical alternatives.
The energy recovery devices, which store spent energy and re-use it to generate power, are allowed but not required under the 2009 regulations.
Most teams have opted for battery-based systems, which harness the braking energy by storing it in super-capacitor batteries which then release power to the driven wheels when required.
