Default New Stratos
I know this isn't strictly rally news but lets face it the Stratos is a piece of rallying history so I think it fits in

As a fan of Italian cars and a lover of the original Stratos I really do like it, perhaps it's just a carbon copy of the Stratos with some modern bits added but when they got it soooo right the first time why play around with it?

The front looks a bit strange without popup headlights but the back is lovely

For once a story about someone extremely priviledged putting their wealth to good use! I'm a major Stratos fan, and whilst the new car is very similar as you say Daniel, it was so right the first time why muck around with the shape etc. Am glad the strange split windscreen seen on earlier mock ups has gone.

Well the split screen was always just a concept thing and they always like to throw in slightly strange things when it comes to concepts. One thing I think looked a bit nicer on the Fenomenon concept was the headlights which look a little small on this prototype IMHO

Yes I agree the front looks a bit "bare" with those lights!

You're all gonna hate me, but I'm not that impressed. I didn't think the old stratos was that amazing to start with. The new one looks like a mix of other cars. From the front it's a Fiat Coupé, from the side it's a Toyota MR2 mk1 and from the back it's a new Corvette

First of all it looks nothing like a Fiat coupe although this wouldn't be a bad thing. Secondly it looks nothing like a Mk1 MR2 Corvette? Huh?

I agree, but my guess is it's just down to some bad compression or such.

Beautiful car anyway!

How much are they going to cost. Stratos's make me loose all sense of being sensible. I could sell my old house and blow it all on a Stratos...or I could just keep my old house and have a decent pension. Booooo!

and you still wouldn't have enough believe me This won't be cheap, in fact you will probably almost be better off looking for a real Stratos.....

It seems that the car was built for Michael Stoschek by his company Brose KG. If it's the same Micheal Stoschek, than he also drives historic rally events with Porsche 911.

Yes it is the same person

http://www.new-stratos.com/#a2

I still quite like the Fenomenon Stratos concept of 5 years ago though
- the split front windscreen I think it looks very nice but I have to say they've got the rear end absofrickinlutely perfect on the one that looks like it's going to go into production
http://www.babez.de/2005/03/fenomemon-stratos/

Another thing that I've noticed is gone from the new one is the louvred rear window Also not quite sure I like the modern take on the coffin spoke wheels as much as I would like a carbon copy of the original

I have heard a lot of details about the car, what the protos are based on and suffice to say it does look like it's going to be a really good car and I'd be pretty annoyed if I'd put a deposit down on something like a 458 Italia

As a modern pastiche of the original, it's far more effective than the 'new' Beetle or Mini, that's for sure. But I'd far rather see a proper new design becoming as undeniably iconic (what an overused word) as the original Stratos.

Whilst I agree with you on the Beetle and Mini, if the original was so perfect then why should they change the bits that make the original so perfect? The Stratos still looks pretty futuristic which helps.
