And Brodka is also amazing. I bought her album Granda while I was in Poland this month. It reminds me of Arcade Fire for some reason although the whole album has quite diverse styles in it. The video for the single is sooo bjorkish.
I also can't stop listening to this song since I got the album (this one is in french, not in polish): |

Ahem... just to let you know, we have a new album out, with the band Baaba (as Baaba Kulka) - Iron maiden covers, donbe in a decidedly non metal style. Hope you like it. It's out in finland, Norway, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Greece, and soon - Germany.

My mother, who lived most of her life in Poland, has been going through a lot of nostalgia, and she gets very excited when there's some new music she rediscovers. It annoys me because I am not a huge fan of Polish music from the era she's invested in, but I thought I'll share what I was asked to sit through last night (with some eye rolling going on). Maybe some of you will enjoy it:
and Irena Jarocka died yesterday, I believe. However, there are some Polish bands I like: and this was my favourite song for many months: This song is quite beautiful as well: and there's a lyric in this song which makes me tear up almost every time: The lyric starts at 2:20: You won't be lonely Because we'll meet Through dreams... |

Can I mention overlooked London-Polish indie/art/vintage/acoustic marvel (and occasional IRL Spitfire pilot) Katy Carr? She's English raised but explores her roots a lot in her songwriting. Here she is being interviewed in Polish about her grandmother (I think), and here are two videos from her 2009 album Coquette.
Kommander's Car is a real-time true story of a prisoner's escape attempt from Auschwitz in 1942: And also with an vehicle theme, Berliner Ring is a tribute to Marlene Deitrich: |

I'm Polish but I have to admit that 95% of music I listen to is foreign - I just find most Polish music to be either crap or good-but-derivative (with the exception of jazz musicians like Stańko and/or classical composers like Penderecki or Górecki). Anyway, these two songs have recently caught my attention:
I don't really like Brodka that much, but this one is just a great pop song. As for Nosowska, she's one of the best lyricists I've ever known (up there with Joanna Newsom and Joni Mitchell) - but of course it's all lost on you unless you speak Polish. Still a nice melody, though. |
