Yeah she's one of the best out there. She's also grown a lot. I like her vocal idiosyncrasies though.

I taped the program last night on local PBS - yay! I haven't watched the entire show yet, but I catch her excellent performance of Good Intentions Paving Company. Prior, I had only seen one other live video of Joanna (I think it was Jools Holland). Anyway, I loved everything about GIPC: the voice, the piano, and her facial expressions. I think she's so cute, and I really hope I get to see her in concert someday.

It says that the Fleet Foxes/Joanna episode is going to air on January 21st. Looks like they're showing three songs - "Bridges and Balloons", "HOOM" and "Good Intentions" (I know she played "In California" and "Go Long" for this taping, so BOO).

As much as I love HOoM and Good Intentions, I'm a bit disappointed they cut In California and especially Go Long. Not that I should be complaining at all, of course. I can't wait until it airs. Thanks for the update, Kari! And that's a lovely version of Bridges and Balloons.

If you were gonna choose 30 minutes of Joanna Newsom, performed with the whole 'Ys Street Band' configuration, that would both satisfy you and sound good to a casual TV viewer, what songs would you choose?

The newer tone of her voice really lends some depth to Bridges and Balloons. I love that performance.

^ It's wonderful hearing her sing this with her "HOOM voice" if that makes sense. Makes the song all the more nostalgic and wistful, in my opinion. It's hard to believe that MEM is nearly 8 years old already.

Yeah all my favourite live performances are HOOM era - the most recent incarnations of Peach Plum Pear and Inflammatory Writ are fantastic. I really hope she releases a live CD at some point, or perhaps another 'YS Street Band' style EP...
