Listening to the new album... it's nice but so far nothing has snagged my heart. Although some months ago "elevator love letter" was on repeat for some reason on my playlist

Default Stars!
THIS IS A THREAD ABOUT THE GLORY OF STARS.

They have a new album out! It is wonderous (surprise.)

But basically, Stars are amazing, and you should all love them. Though I'm not sure I'd ever see them live as the videos I've seen Torq and Amy come across as being in an abusive relationship onstage.

Anyone else heard the Seance EP that came with Five Ghosts online?

I love Stars. The new album is really, really nice. I'm more a fan of the poppier first half, because Stars are really good at the catchy melodies, but "Changes" is .

I've seen them live, but it was in the context of a tiny secret show, and I don't know that I'd want to see them any other way. The intimate setting suited them well.

Well, my comment mainly comes from a video of Going, Going, Gone I saw a year or so ago, and the way they interacted made me incredibly uncomfortable.

Do you still have the link? I'm all curious now.

Love Stars! Heart and In Our Bedroom... are such great albums. I listened to the new one once but I was kind of distracted so I didn't get a very good impression.

Saw them last night -- brilliant live! I seem to always forget how much they love their fans. Torq and Amy were fantastic. Is it just in LA, or are they playing much smaller venues this time around? This is certainly the smallest venue I've seen them in.

They are doing something different this tour: there is no other opening act. Torq is the opener, I guess, doing his Dead Child Stars DJ set -- which was great, but man, what a ham he can be! Then they are playing the new album in its entirety (which is actually my least favorite of the albums, sorry to say)... THEN, they are coming back for another set after the entirety of Five Ghosts is played -- only to be playing all of the songs that have been requested/voted for by fans on their website. Get all that? It seems kind of gimmicky to me, but it was just great to see them. I ADORE them, and was so happy to see them live! I am considering going again tonight!

I agree about it being a least fave so far, M. I heard it this morning and was seriously underwhelmed. It's lovely yet boring.

I am just on the first song of The Five Ghosts. My first STARS album. A friend of mine posted on facebook that she was seeing them on my bday - October 2nd. She told me to check them out, so I'm currently checking them out.

Listened to the album a lot more today. I still like it a lot and am obsessed with "Dead Hearts," "Wasted Daylight," and "Changes," but I don't have an overwhelming desire to listen to a good third of it, at least. I almost agree with you, Kari -- though I don't think it's boring; I just think it's not...meaty enough, maybe?

Also, do the melodies on the album strike anyone else as a bit New Pornagraphers-ish?

I happen to LOVE The Five Ghosts. I know Pitchfork doesn't, a lot of people around the online boards don't and it hasn't garnered the biggest fan response, but I just adore it. I think it's a strong album with a great narrative. I haven't had it off repeat since Sunday night.

Seeing them live was insanely great. One of my favorite band shows in a long, long time. I loved it. Even Torq!

Just finished listening to the album one time through, and while I really enjoy the music, the vocals and lyrics don't really do it for me. I don't have an urge to listen to it a second time, but probably will just to give it a chance.

I haven't stopped listening to the new album all week. I'm listening to their KCRW set now.

I didn't care much for a lot of In Our Bedroom After the War, mostly because of what I sometimes perceived as Torq's hammy, affected way of singing. To this day, "The Night Stars Here" conjures images of some kind of ad for a cruise ship line. I adore "Window Bird" and "Bitches in Tokyo" though, and some days "Take Me to the Riot."

That said, I am really liking The 5 Ghosts so far! The only song I feel an urge to skip is the one that says, "I don't want your body!" over and over (which may or may not have something to do with the fact that I thought she was singing, "I don't want your fanny!" the first time I heard it). I am particularly enamored with the first two tracks.

I really need to procure and listen to Set Yourself on Fire, as I've heard only good things about it.

The Five Ghosts is my first Stars album--and I think it's charming. I look forward to investigating--more closely--the narrative it apparently has....

Stars are offering up two remixes in honor of their tour! Opinions Versus The Sun with The Album Leafe (which was on the Seance EP) and a remix of We Don't Want Your Body.
