Sushi rest. Santiago
Is there a good Sushi rest in Santiago?
|
I am no expert on Sushi, but there is a small sushi place called Sushi Ya at the corner of the park in Los Jardines, on Metropolitana and Calle 10, across the street from the Supermarket.
Try it and give us your opinion... HB |
I was going to a Sushi place on Cuba about 1 block off of Del Sol...................
The sushi USED to be pretty descent......... but now it's almost all rice with virtually nothing inside............. The Shrimp and veggie fried tempura is still very good............... They don't serve sashimi......... B in Santiago |
Kaffa, Front Door by Kaffa, and the place next to Kaffa all served great sushi, but I believe have all closed. There's a sushi place in Plaza Internacional, but it didn't look that great and it's kind of expensive...and it's served from a kiosk...in a mall...so try at your own risk.
I have never been disappointed with Sushi Ya (HB's recommendation above). The prices are great, the sushi's pretty good, they have sashimi and tuna tataki...as a bonus, it's part of a three restaurant corner owned buy the same people. A great Burger Place (Burger Ya) and one of the best italian/pizza places in Santiago (Il Piccoleto, or something like that)...so if you can't decide what you want, or are with people who don't like sushi, you can order from any of the three menus... |
Ok David, leaving for Sushi Ya in 5 minutes...........
Never been there before, so hoping it will be a good experience.......... I'm a Sushi lover from way back so I'm going to load up.......... Will post when I return........... B in Santiago and hungry.......... |
Just returned from Sushi Ya.................
First time there and it turned out to be excellent.......... This is what was ordered for 2 people........... One 4-cheese (8-slice) pizza.......RD$295. The 4 cheeses were Mozzarella, Ricotta, Parmesan, and Blue Cheese. Next time I will order without the blue cheese....... The crust was ultra thin and crispy.....the way I like it......... Also ordered (1) Sashimi plate, PLENTY of FRESH salmon and tuna....RD$190. And, the Sushi Plate....(1) California Roll, (1) Spicy tuna roll, with salmon & tuna sashimi...RD$315. They don't serve Coke, Pepsi is what they have.....all good...... The total bill with taxes and tip........RD$1132. With round trip taxi, RD$1400........... Try and get this in the states for 35 bucks, and this includes 2 taxi's........ Thank you HB and David for posting your info, very enjoyable evening.......... Took their paper menus home....AND THEY DELIVER....... Couldn't eat it all, 1/2 pizza and 1 sushi roll for tomorrow............yummy........ B in Santiago not hungry anymore |
You are welcome! Next time, send me a PM or e-mail and stop by the house, it's on the way--three blocks away on Metropolitana...

Try the eggplant parmesan at the Italian place next door. Gourmet.

I'm going to be a regular there from now on............ Between the 3 restaurants together, a different adventure every visit......... And Pelaut, for sure, I love eggplant........... But......I will never ever get Blue Cheese on ANYTHING again........ Oh one important thing........... When I finished eating, I calculated the bill at about RD1150. When the "bills" were brought out, there were 2 stapled together...... One from the Italian and one from the Sushi restaurant.......... They were done on a calculator and totaled together on a calculator........ On a separate calculator printout, 400 and 732 totaled 1732....... How this was accomplished I'll never know........... If I didn't pre-calculate and had a few drinks (which I don't drink alcohol).......... I may have overpaid 500........ How can they get a calculator to do this........http://www.dr1.com/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif B in Santiago |

I calculate a difference of almost 600. (I Used a Bush Calculator) |

Phew, glad you caught that............ I would have "almost" overpaid 600........... But, that really wasn't the point I was making...........lol B in Santiago |

Once the order was placed I figured an hour for delivery..............
20 minutes later they were at my door, and I'm a 15 minute ride away........... 2 Orders of Sashimi (for me).......and Sushi for "a" girlfriend.......... Afraid to try anything else since I enjoy Sashima as much as I do...... Orders are large, fresh, and the price is right..........with a lot of extra ginger...no charge.... Gave the delivery guy a healthy tip, and the rest is now history...... Tomorrow is another sushi day........ B in Santiago |
L went Sunday. Enjoyed very much.

Good for lunch while visiting Marco and a little suntan on the beach........... If I'm hungry when I return, will take Davids advise and try the Tuna Tataki.......... Depends on the time, they will not deliver after 9 pm....... Don, I think it's Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte............ B in Santiago |
