Baffling post! Talking creole with English in a Dominican (Spanish) site would indicate such. |

Thanks guys, appreciate everyone helping me out. I think it should still probably wait until I have at least a week or more to commit. I don't want to seem rushed as I am interviewing them and observing their facility and going on some home births with the Midwives. This is the home of Midwives for Haiti and as you all know, my organization is Midwives for the Dominican Republic. The Director and I have been conversing for a while via email and I figured that it would be good to see the actual work that they are doing in Haiti, as we are in their infancy and can only hope to attain what they have.
Anyway, I will bump this thread when I can go for at least a week. But I can say....I got very good information, Thank you! SHALENA |

Ah yes, Hincha, the birthplace of Pedro Santana. 100 years ago it was still part of the DR. My, how things change.
By the way, wouldn't be easier if you stayed in San Juan de la Maguana (it has the most decent lodgings between it and Hinche) and then drive (or be driven) over there. Never mind. Once he highway crosses the border, it becomes worthy for only donkeys and SUVs. ![]() |

HB, I looked into that and on the Caribe tours website, there did not look like any buses went to Haiti from Santiago...I kept getting the "No disponible" when I clicked on the schedule. And trying to get someone to answer the phone there was nearly impossible. IAnd the biggest problem is that it seems that I will miss the buses from PAuP and Cap Haitian to Hinche unless someone knows different? |

I was wondering> Why not take a small plane from Santiago to Hinche? There is a landing strip there. You can probably charter an aircraft at the Santiago airport. Check it out at least.
Hinche is certainly tucked away. And the option of going to San Juan de la Maguana is a good one if you are thinking of taking a Land Rover-type vehicle across the border at Bánica, but roads are probably bad to really bad. Access from the north (Cap Haitian) or south (Port-au-Prince) seems to be difficult and time consuming... HB |
