Default Religious Similarities
Spiritual Similarities:
It's often been said that if people would look beyond their differences, they'd find they have much more in common than they think. Learning about other belief systems doesn't mean you have to take on any part of those beliefs or practices. But understanding why others feel they way they do about certain issues and topics can go a long way to understanding each other. In other words, if you can learn about your neighbor and what they belief, then you can find a common ground for communication and understanding.
On this page, I'd like to try and show from my perspective, the similarities of the positive belief systems. We all practice the same things, we use different names to label our rituals and ceremonies. Take a look and see if you can find some similarities not listed here. The rest of the article is here:

I have been saying the same thing for a number of years now. I really try to stay away from any discussion that talks negatively about any belief system. I rather prefer to discuss the similarities.

Peace & Love!

I think another similarity not mentioned is that religions evolve and change over time, even those that claim that they do not.

The Bard siad: "A rose by any other name still smells as sweet." (or something to that effect). I think the same holds true for The Divine: it doesn't matter what you call Her as long as you call Her.

And, if my memory serves me well, all religions have some form of entity that is greater than man, regardless of what name they attatch to it.

And, from somewhere I have heard that all men are created equal in the eyes of God.

So what's the problem?

Peace & Love!

Some want to be 'more equal' than everyone else. They want to be able to say "God/dess loves me more than you." They think that it's a competition, "I'm holier than thou." They don't understand that there is enough love to go around several times over.

Just so I don't sound like a parrot, I agree with everyone here. Religion (a construct of man) seperates us, not God. Even if you took all the views of God that are on Earth and combined them into one view, you still would not have a complete view of God. JMO.

Another great find, Connie.

I think another similarity not mentioned is that religions evolve and change over time, even those that claim that they do not.
And none of them were there at 'the beginning'. It took our ideas about 'the great IT' to create religions. Otherwise, we'd have the 'right' answer.

The Bard siad: "A rose by any other name still smells as sweet." (or something to that effect). I think the same holds true for The Divine: it doesn't matter what you call Her as long as you call Her.
Or not call, depending...LOL

I wouldn't say greater necessarily, but yeah, I get your point. LOL [Eris...]

We have religious services in a consumer society. You get what you pay for. Successful religions have fancy temples and their priests wear the prettiest frocks.

What makes one religion more popular than another?

Perhaps humans understanding God isn't the big question...
Perhaps it's God understanding humans that's the real quest.
Humans understanding humans would certainly help humans tho'!

Yes, too bad it takes so long. We rarely have the time and patience.
