To settle the ongoing "region vs atheist" wars going on. I present. this video. God is just a symbolic concept! Skip to 3:30. Mind you, the person is termed the last western heretic. He is also an ordained minister at the Presbytarian church so he does know what he is talking about. He mentioned GOD is like X in algebra and termed that the question god exist or not is nonsensical. I think this guy has the best views when it comes to religion and science.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lloyd_Geering Geering was born in Rangiora, Canterbury, New Zealand, and "embraced" the Christian tradition in 1937.[2] He holds a Doctor of Divinity from the University of Otago and a master's degree in mathematics. He was a minister in the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand (PCANZ) and turned to theological teaching in 1956. |

But he is not, he was tried for heresy just like them. i cant say the same for Alan Turing for he wasnt so lucky. a mathematical genius who had contributed so much to the world of technology and helped the briteish to break the german's egnima machine.. he was sentenced to jail for his homosexuality.. either he took chemical castration or face jail.. he chose death. |

Atheistic communists slaughtered millions. central america ruled by spanish conquisitors.. how many died? christian crusade .. how many died? eruope's catholic versus protestants war - how many died? britian conquered 3/4 of the world - how many died? opium trafficking in china - how many died? europe's inquisition - how many died? america's civil war - how many died? atheism is the lack of belief for the existence of a supernatural being. unless people go out and kill others while chanting; "we are killing you in the name of the lack of belief of God." THEN YOU CAN SAY THAT THEY ARE KILLED BY ATHEISTS!! |

Actually, during the cultural revolution, I think people did get killed by atheist because they believed in god/supernatural beings.

Actually, during the cultural revolution, I think people did get killed by atheist because they believed in god/supernatural beings. if they are rationalist, and rationalize Mao's directives, they would say otherwise. you need to see; if they are not trained in the discipline of questioning things and authorise, they will fall victims to mysticism and be led by the nose. do you not agree? |

The only conclusion I can get is that regardless of atheist or religion, as long as you harm others there is bad connotations to it.
well, they BELIEVE in Mao.. that is another form of worshipping, taking Mao's words as Gospel truth. never think thru'. How many times have we seen blind worshipping of personality cult like Jim Jones, Kim Jong Il, Hitler, etc? |

A person is intelligent, a mob usually not. If everyone is rational and did everything to his best interest then you get chaos. Same if everyone did everything that benefits the environment. The idea of an utopian society is just an idea. It would not be reality.
i have never seen society suffer more if the people can reason better. usually it is on the reverse. |
