Default The Battle Of Los Angeles
I am curious what some of you think of this. It is fairly well known, and was fully documented back when it happened.

http://www.ufoevidence.org/photograp...s/Photo164.htm

February 25, 1942 - Los Angeles, California, USA

THE EVENTS:

02:25pm: Alarm sirens installed in the event of a Japanese air raid are started, as flying objects are seen and announced in the sky off the city. A blackout is declared and the anxious and even terrified inhabitants follow the instructions by turning all the lights off.

03:16pm: Anti-aircraft guns open fire on the unidentified flying objects coming from the ocean, and projector beams are searching the sky. There seems that at least 2 different types of machines are flying over LA. Witnesses observe small objects flying at high altitude, of red or silver plated color, moving in formation at high speed, and untouched by the AAA salvos. Their pace is an estimated 29000 km/h. There is also a larger object which remains stationary for some time, then, when lightened by the projectors above Culver City, starts to move at a constant speed of 100 km/h in the direction of the Santa Monica cost, and later southwards in direction of Long Beach, where it goes out of sight. This large object has been touched by many AAA projectiles, according to the reports. The anti aircraft defence continues to shoot at UFOS.

04:14: There is a cease-fire, 1430 6 kilogram shells have been used. No bomb has been dropped by the unknown flying objects, and none of them could be shot down. The story goes that heavy artillery was fired at the object repeatedly with no effect. It took the best we could offer it and didn't flinch.

Thoughts?

29000 KPH? How in 1942 could they aim at something moving 22 times the speed of sound? This is total BS.

It was 2:25am, not pm. I don't know how fast it was moving.

However, the Army shot it multiple times. This would seem to indicate that we are not talking about a balloon.

Based on the Wiki article (since it is a better source...i was just posting something that came up real quick and should have went with a better source), what are your thoughts?

Add to that the "Washington DC Invasion of 1952":

and here is a photograph of that incident, as well:

Personally I think the whole Battle of Los Angles is an example of mass hysteria. The troops guarding LA were not the best and brightest. Those left here in the US were old war vets or people so blind they couldn't qualify for standard combat positions.

My Dad served on a Submarine Tender in WWII. This was a non combat support ship. It had a couple of guns and they did some target practice trying to shoot a target towed by a plane. My Dad was the only one to hit the target and they couldn't assign him to the gun because he wore glasses. A couple of the idiots aimed at the tow plane. None of them on board qualified for combat. That is why they were on that ship. I contend a similar situation prevailed in L.A.

As to the D.C. event that is so convoluted that we'll never get a solid answer on it.

Personally, I believe if aliens did visit earth they would actually have something along the lines of the Prime Directive from STTNG.

I'm being serious here.

Take a peek at the earthlings but do not get thier panties in a twist.

I fully believe it is possible for other planets out there with life on them.

I also believe these planets have to be further away than the furthest galaxy we've located or closer & it's being kept a secret.

Unless there is a universe out there with "People" who own space ships that can travel where they want much the same way people here own yahts & travel the world I honestly don't think we would see any ships from space because they wouldn't want us to see them.

As for the whole "space ship crash landed" thing, what, aliens travel hundreds of light-yrs, navigate asteroids & other space debri then get to earth & crash?

Seriously? is it the icy winding road of the universe?

I can believe one, maybe two alien crafts crashing to earth, but i've read stories of at least a dozen.

Is the universe populated by beings that can't drive?

We have an entire city where most people can't drive worth a crap, so why would we expect foreigners to do any better?

It would be hard to say, as we do not know what kinds of propulsion would be used. If there was, say, a gravity related propulsion, then on Earth it would be feasible that it wouldn't be as easy to control due to gravity variations.

Who knows.
