Default Report: Diana's driver was drunk
Report: Diana's driver was drunk
LONDON, England (AP)

http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/europe....ap/index.html

New DNA evidence proves the driver of Princess Diana's car was drunk on the night of her fatal crash in a Paris underpass in 1997, the British Broadcasting Corp. reported Saturday.

The tests confirm that original post-mortem blood samples were from driver Henri Paul and that he had three times the French legal limit of alcohol in his blood, the BBC said, quoting from a documentary it will screen Sunday.

Paul, Diana, 36, and her friend, Dodi Fayed, 42, were killed when their Mercedes crashed in the Pont d'Alma tunnel in Paris on August 31, 1997 while the couple were being followed by media photographers.

Rumors and conspiracy theories continue to swirl around the death of the former wife of Prince Charles, the heir to the British throne, despite a French judge's 1999 ruling that the crash was an accident. An investigation later concluded that Paul had been drinking and was driving at high speed

I thought he was drunk the night they died too? Wasn't that a huge deal. And why wait ALL THESE YEARS later to test the DNA? Still sounds really fishy to me.

I mean he likely was drunk, I have no doubt that he could have been. But why so adament now?

This new investigation report also says that the US had Diana's cell phone
tapped and was listening in just hours before the accident; and without
the knowledge of British Intelligence.
Hmmm......the plot thickens.

How drunk was he?
According to a MSNBC news reports judicial sources said the driver, identified as Henri Paul, had an alcohol level measuring about 1.70 grams per liter of blood, a level which medical experts say can cause staggering and double vision and make it impossible to drive.
A report from CNN said "The legal limit of alcohol in a driver's blood in France is 0.5 grams per liter of blood, the equivalent of two glasses of beer or one glass of wine. Prosecutors said the driver's blood-alcohol level was 1.75 grams. That level would be the equivalent of a blood-alcohol reading of .175 percent under the U.S. system."

UPDATE: Later reports are now saying that Paul's blood alcohol level was 1.87 mg/l or about four times the legal limit. His parents, however, are disputing the claim and have http://alcoholism.about.com/library/weekly/aa090397.htm

US bugged Diana's phone on night of death crash

Mark Townsend and Peter Allen in Paris
Sunday December 10, 2006
The Observer

The American secret service was bugging Princess Diana's telephone conversations without the approval of the British security services on the night she died, according to the most comprehensive report on her death, to be published this week.
Among extraordinary details due to emerge in the report by former Metropolitan police commissioner Lord Stevens is the revelation that the US security service was bugging her calls in the hours before she was killed in a car crash in Paris.

That's a lot of booze.
Was he guzzling rum while he waited by the limo?

How drunk was he?

I think I remember them saying he sat in the bar while she and Dodie
were having dinner up stairs. If it were a "plot" maybe someone slipped
something in his drinks.

I remember too seeing a letter that the Queen's husband (what is we call
him...Prince Phillip? I don't think he gets to use the title King) had written
a letter suggesting that someone needed to cut her brake line and cause
her to have an accident. That was in one of those books that were flying
around right after it happened.

I think it will be like the JFK assassination....forever a conspiracy that
will never go away or be solved. Probably just a tragic accident. But I
think it will be interesting to find out why we were buggin' her phone.
That's a strange new twist.
