I made a post on one of Alice Walker's sites about the myth of the supposed "genocide" of the "Palestinians":
http://colorlines.com/archives/2011/...ment-243385474 Mitchell1970 [Moderator] 1 week ago Another myth I would like to expose for what it is, a farce, is that Israel is committing a "genocide" on Palestinians: http://www.upi.com/Top_News/Wo... From above link: Palestinians living in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip have one of the highest rates of population growth in the world, the Central Bureau of Statistics said. In the past 13 years, the Palestinian population has grown by 45 percent, statistics released by the Israeli bureau show, Ynetnews.com reported Monday. [end of quote from link] Wow, for a people that is being targeted for genocide, they are sure growing!!!! Also from above link: The Gaza Strip has one of the highest densities of population in the world with 4,000 people per square mile, it said. [end of quote from link] However, Gaza wouldn't have even made the Forbes list of most densely populated cities with Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, the least populated density on the Forbes List having a population of 9516 people per square kilometer (which is less than a square mile): http://www.forbes.com/2006/12/... Also from above link: The agency says Palestinians living in the West Bank and Gaza own 1.3 million cellular phones and 356,000 Palestinian homes are linked to the Internet. The Palestinian Bureau of Statistics says 97 percent of Palestinians living in the West Bank and 39.2 per cent of those living in Gaza have television sets in their homes. [end of quote from link] Also from above link: Ynetnews said there are 24 government-sponsored hospitals in the West Bank and Gaza and 52 non-governmental medical facilities with a total of 5,000 beds. [end of quote from link] This is about 12 hospital beds per 10000 people [if anyone needs me to do the math, I will be glad to]. Now compare this to other countries in the world: http://globalhealthfacts.org/d... While there is certainly room for improvement, they have more hospital beds per person that no small number of other countries. I would also like to talk about the life expectancy in Gaza compared to other countries in the world: https://www.cia.gov/library/pu... Gaza is smack in the middle at 73.92 years. For a people being targeted for "genocide" they are not doing so badly, especially when it comes to population growth rate and life expectancy. This is not to say that all is hunky dory in Gaza, but "genocide". This is a cheap use of the word and an insult to all the genocides that really do/did occur in the world. It's been a week since I posted this and the silence is deafening ![]() |
