Montesquieu: Persian Letters

hello all
lettres persanes by montesquieu is one of my set texts at university (UK) next year- I was wondering what people think of it?

I really don't see whats so good about it- my university has allegedly chosen texts for their significance in french literature (the 6 texts span from the middle ages to the late 20th century)- but I can't see how this text could be signifant at all. I really don't find it interesting

what do you think?

I read this for school and liked it very much. The main attraction come from the foreign point of view on the French courts habbits.

Read it again (if you did bother to even read it once) and try to open your mind to different cultures or epoques. If this does not work, drop out school and start whatever you like most.

I have only read excerpts of Lettres Persanes of Montesquieu.

It is quite interesting but it has somewhat tone. For me, it was evident that they were talking about Persia as observers from the outside and not as locals. I doubt real Persians during that time would talk like that. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...s/confused.png
