Yes, Charles Highway is an extraordinarily enjoyable character but that?s about it. Everything else is pretty run-of-the mill. The way the story is narrated is unusual enough, but the writer clearly does not have the chops to do a great job of this yet, so what could be innovative falls flat and is merely amusing. That is quite enough for a book, however. The Rachel Papers is no masterpiece, but I enjoyed it every bit of the way. s*: Posh Spice: Martin Amis’s “The Rachel Papers”
