Love the idea of getting involved in the Moros and Cristianos parades - what a shame that we won't be in Spain as I would love to get involved and I would be on the Cristianos side.
I read in one of the messages that Gama owns the centre. Would this be the same Gama who began building the Melody houses at Brisamar?

One of the big problems with plastic is people puting the bottles in the bins without crushing them first. Some bring a carrier bag bag full of 1.5 litre bottles and just stuff it in bag n' all. They then become full after a very short time.
It ain't rocket science!! SQUASH YOUR BOTTLES/CANS FIRST.

Great work Mark. At least it's a start! Hopefully they will be able to clean the rest up soon. When I was there in August I was forever picking up litter. It's just a pity that some people can't see what they're doing to the place by dumping their unwanted furniture and litter everwhere.

No meeting was arranged for yesterday

Council had put everything in hand to deal with the rubbish etc

Now you have done it, the council have had to cancel all arrangements

Leave it all to you from now

You will see in the September edition of the
Gran Alacant Advertiser
that we at the magazine were asked to help the bars get this sorted.
They were all quite prepared to chip in to keep the area tidy

We called a meeting with the councillor, who has now phoned the company that owns these bars (they are in Torre) and told them to get it cleaned up.

If this is not forthcoming quickly, other measures will be taken to get it sorted.

Bar owners even wanted to clean it up themselves, but, out here everything is more difficult. As this property is not theirs, they would be trespassing.

Hope we will see some action (when they all come back from holidays!!!!!)

The Town hall are NOT responsible for cleaning private property

There is a rota between the bars only to clean the steps and the slope
Unfortunately some will not contribute, so the system falls down

If your neighbour has an untidy garden, would you expect it to be the Town Halls responsibility?

Barry.

If it can be found out which of the proprietors are not contributing to the system - then why don't you publish their names in the Advertiser or even put them on here so we can all make the choice wether to boycott their businesses or not ? You would be doing all of us a favour.

If it doesn't improve soon then I'll take my custom to the businesses at the GA centre.

As regards the general cleaning on GA

Up until a few months ago a company over the last 10 years had a contract to clean Santa Pola only, not GA
This contract has just been renewed to include Gran Alacant. The company in question after the holiday period SHOULD be seen reguarly among us in their brand new truck, cleaning PUBLIC areas not PRIVATE areas

HAVE WE TURNED THE CORNER?

Agree with Rich and Sue... is spotlessly clean, but must also say we have loads of new bins around Puerto Marino, at least 6...plus a recycling bin

Pleased to hear that things have suddenly improved a bit - hopefully, it will continue. My cynical mind wondered whether the owners want to make it impossible for the current owners to continue making a living so that they give up so the owners can then rent the units out to others at vastly higher rents.

A bit of an aside, but... debtor notice for refuse collection!

I wonder if the Ajuntament has enough money for the cleaning 8-]

Today I received a debtor notice for the last 3 years refuse and drains... rather surprised, as I have never received a bill!

Maybe, just maybe, they have a masterplan to answer our hopes and prayers... and get more cleaning done, and someone kicked the accountancy department so that they can pay the cleaners.

Not wanting to stand in the way of progress, I'll be off to pay the bill tomorrow!

Mark,
Isn't it a good job that the British legal system has always had three magistrates on the bench - that way, any cynicism etc. is smoothed out by the whole bench.

So pleased to hear that things are beginning to move in the right direction. I think that Barry and Mark deserve a vote of thanks for all they do in their separate ways to make life in GA pleasant for everyone.

We at the magazine find Loreto very helpful and very aproachable if you use the right atitute.

No kicking arses, just talking sensibly

If we were still in the uk and foreigners walked into our country telling us what to do, I think we could possibly take offence!!!

One wonders if this disparity might reflect the numbers signing on or not signing on the Padron?
Even though we don't live in Spain permanently, signing on the Padron was a priority for us when we bought our house. Wonder how many others who only holiday in the area have bothered?
