Default confederations cup
starts sunday. us begins play monday against world champion italy. gonna be difficult to avoid seeing results but i will try my best. in typical us fashion we draw the group of death.

group a
south africa
spain
new zealand
iraq

group b
usa
italy
brazil
egypt

4 points would be quite a success imo and could possibly get them into the knockout stage.

would like to see a lineup of

--------------howard
bornstein--boca--gooch--spector
deuce---torres/feilhaber/adu--bradley--donovan
---------altidore-----davies

i doubt we will see a 4-4-2 against italy and brazil though, more likely a 4-5-1 with clark and bradley as holding mids and either torres/feilhaber/adu as attacking mid.

we were the only side to take a point off italy at the '06 world cup and would have taken 3 if it weren't for a horrendous offside call.

just a reminder for the futbol fans here, play begins tomorrow at 10 am(eastern time, the only time that matters) with south africa vs. iraq. you can't beat international futbol.

south africa has dominated the 2nd half and had a sure goal off a header from a great cross. but a south african player standing on the goal line blocked it from hitting the back of the net.

So does this determine who goes to the world cup or no?

no, it's a tournament for all the current champions of the confedations, the defending world cup champions, and the host country. iraq isn't going to make it to the world cup and i believe egypt is in danger of not qualifying either. this is good for the us, it's the best competition they are going to face prior to 2010.

5-0 in the 48th minute after the kiwi defender completely whiffs on the clearance and david villa scores the easiest goal of his life.

this sucks these games are during the day. brazil and egypt are tied 3-3 in what appears to be an awesome game.

Pretty sweet finish. If it was two bigger teams, it would have mattered more.

and egypt is no slouch. they've won back-to-back african nations cups.

wish i would have recorded this along with the us game. was going to try to not follow the us game at work, may not be able to help myself though.

Great match between Egypt and Brazil. Wish the Pharaohs would have pulled it out.

I'm unhappy that I have to start work right as the second game begins.

FORZA AZZURRI!

What more important thing could E**N or the duece have on tonight - Comcast in it's infinite wisdom decided E**N Classic should be on the higher $ tier so I do not even get that?
