Yeah, and yankys are pissed because a mosque is being build in NY.
Is the federal government blocking it?

Why not move out to some country which is more free like Iran?

Hang on, but isn't that a cat in the middle of the crowd?

It's amazing. We don't even have this debate in this country... your religious customs are your own business and as long as no one is being hurt by it, no law can prohibit what you do. If a woman wants to wear it, who the **** gives a damn? Let them.

Can anyone from a country of the free (besides Oerdin who has issues) find any justification for this?

1. Some yankees. It's a very contentious debate.
2. At least it isn't illegal
3. It's about a specific building and its proximity to a specific site... not a nation-wide ban.

HC:

When Oerdin says stuff like that, there's no point in arguing with him. Deep down, I know Oerdin knows what he's saying is wrong but experiences have made him very anti-Islamic. I think he should talk to a counselor but hopefully time will heal him and make him realize the errors in his ways.

The whole mosque thing is really just political grandstanding.
So what ? It was just a building that was destroyed and it is being rebuild.

Ehrm, that isn't any longer the question discussed, so why do you bring it up ?

So what is the question? Is America less or as prejudiced as France?

So those against this law would be OK for polygamy as well.

the degree of power some particular segments of society have over shaping their children's education and culture (or lack of them) coupled with demographic trends are what's bringing your once glorious country to it's downfall. Think idiocracy, but much more boring and mundane. Such a country won't survive. such a society will simply be replaced with healthier ones.

This is basically the same issue with Europe, but europe is not as freedom inclined as the US, so it can allow itself to change gears whenever freedom lets it go the wrong way.

People are born free? rubbish. People are born into a world of circumstances which are completely controlled by their parents. And if your parents don't provide you the atmosphere in which you can stop and think for yourself (either through indoctrination or neglect), then you are basically a slave to your parents' consequences.

Obviously you haven't seen the Islamic fundamentalists in London holding signs promising to kill people while wearing rags over their faces. Being able to identify people by not allowing people to cover their faces every day is a basic law and order issue and it NEVER has anything to do with religion since the Koran never called for it. It's simply an evil cultural practice designed to oppress and subjugate women while denying them equal rights and as such it causes immense harm. That's why Turkey outlawed the practice for like 70 years.

How come you weren't protesting when the Turks spent three generations banning this barbaric practice but you suddenly call the French racists for doing the exact same thing? Where the Turks evil racists against themselves?

This is ridiculous.

The US is a nation largely built of people who fled something, whether it was poverty or war or oppression. Given that, I find it unbelievably arrogant of you to presume that anyone should have to conform to American culture or stay out. Chances are somebody said something similar to one of your ancestors and that's why they came here.
Unlikely since my ancestors were British so we've been consistently telling others to conform or stay out.

Either way it doesn't matter. When in in Rome you do as the Romans do so when people come here they need to conform mostly to the American way. Same goes for France.

That is plainly untrue and very false I will have you know. We (us) are (still) allowed to express politically correct views and there is nothing more correct, politically or any other way, than USA = suxx. Christian or Muslim, Frenchman or Roma, Swede or Alcoholic Nicotinist Dane, everyone agrees!

Well, Oerdin usually get his facts wrong except when it's about geological questions. The turks has diverted(?) religion and state since Ataturk
wich is some 70 years ago.
Says the dumbest poster here besides Ben.

Didn't realize you were part of the English-only crowd. And of course this entire statement ignores the melting pot ideal of American culture.
