Job interview - URGENT TIPS NEEDED!
Be yourself. You seem to show here a good balance of cocky vs competence. That's what they're going to be looking for. The supercitizen is alive and well. BE CONFIDENT.

I've only been to two job interviews before in my life, so I don't think I have any good advice. But I want to wish you good luck Pekka, if you are half the person you look like from the threads I've read here the last few years, you have a great starting point.http://www.discussworldissues.com/im...ons/icon14.gif

Pekka, don't obsess too much about what to do. Like Rah said, just be yourself. Good luck. http://www.discussworldissues.com/im...ons/icon14.gif

Er...I thought I posted that while logged in as Wiglaf...

5000 dollars or euros?

Avoid name-dropping any prominent members of the Russian mafia.

Penis size is rarely on the job description, so read it before flopping your schlong out on the table.
Other than that, good luck. http://www.discussworldissues.com/im...ons/icon14.gif |

Well I had to go and buy myself a new suit, just to be on the safe side. The organization is a bit conservative.
Anyway. My strategy is this: I'll think of what my value is to the organization so I can focus on making it clear. So there's nothing really important unsaid after it's over. So they know who they will get if they hire me, or have the information enough to know not to hire me if they so choose. I dont' think they'll hold my age too much against me, they got passed that fact when they put me on the short list I guess. So it might even be a strong point right now. I will think of my weaknesses so I can say something but something safe but not too much of a cliche. That's it! As of tonight, I'll just watch movies and eat candy. Tomorrow I'll go to the beach during the day, have a picnic there, swim, read some book, get back home, shower really slowly and do all that stuff, get dressed really slowly, make myself feel good about it, forget all the stuff I was supposed to say because it never works anyway, grab my resume and go and hope for the best. That's my strategy. |
The obvious cliche for weakness is that you sometimes work too hard and ignore your personal life.
But one that is being used more but not seen to be such a cliche is. Sometime I spend too long trying to figure something out before getting help. I've getting better recognizing when to get help as I've gotten older but I could still use some improvement in this area. This shows growth and maturity. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/wink.gif |
That falls under Cliche. Even I ask for a different answer when that one is used.
The better version of that one is "sometimes people accuse me of being anal". |
I doubt that one would come off as a positive negative. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...milies/lol.gif http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...milies/lol.gif http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...milies/lol.gif

So I just came back. It was a hot day (the hottest of this year and hottest in decades) and I was sweating like a pig (no AC). That's OK though. It's hot for everyone.
It went pretty well. They had ready questions for me that they used for everyone. They said the short list is 4 people, and I'm one of them. I got the impression that they hadn't yet decided on the previous 3, as in it wasn't yet locked in their minds. I was the last one to be interviewed. They had pretty tough questions though. I've got to admit, they put me to the spot but I think I handled myself well. i was honest: to some questions I had to answer no, I don't have experience of that yet, but I have experience in this and that etc. It lasted for an hour. The 'would-be-my-boss' liked me I think. He worried a bit (I sense) that my background is academic, and that maybe it's too academic. So I said that I realize this is an issue people might have but I'm a hands-on person particularly, that I did my doctoral studies in 2 years, de facto, and that it shouldn't be held against me for being capable of doing that. I said the previous in different words of course. Towards the end of the interview, the 'would-be-my-boss' said to the other interviewer, who would be my co-worker, that my answers have been comprehensive and perfect. So go figure. Let's say I would be extremely disappointed if I didn't get the job now. And it's a grrreeeeeaaat job! They will let me know on the second week of next month, so it'll be few weeks. I try to think that I was selected out of many people into a list of 4 of this demanding and high position that is also very official one, and that I made to the list even with my lesser experience and young age and that I should be proud of that fact. But man it'll suck if I dont' get it. |
I always liked to go first and set the bar too high for the rest. And if you're the first, it's less likely that they've already settled on someone they liked.
But, I have faith in the supercitizen. |

If you don't get this job, do we have to put you on suicide watch?

Well, I guess it didn't go THAT well. I just got an email that was sent to all the interviewed candidates saying that they will make their decision in 3 weeks and before that, they will interview 3 extra people... so I guess we, the first 4, didn't impress them enough. Oh well... my business partner, then again, knows the people in that place and said I wasn't missing much, it's a position for lots of lost hair and deleted brain cells... particularly that it is a position that it is a position of power in this society, however, it might not be worth the effort, because the price is high to be paid personally.
I still wanted the job but I guess this one was not meant to be. This leaves me 100 % active to the company though, so maybe that's better in the long term. |
Japher is 100000000000000000000000% correct.
