Since it seems we are all saving money for that one big trip or just can't get away for a trip, now is a time to remember or create some new camp fire stories. We don't have any stories that were handed down or anything but we have come up with a couple. I won't give all the details but will put in a more of a bullet point version so you can change it up.
This one we made up at Garner, the names are from markers on the trails so the kids thought it really happened. Diane and George were married, they were working on the trails at the top of old baldy, George got hungry and went for a sandwich in the cooler they left along the trail, Diane didn't know where he went and began to call for him, she was afraid he had fallen off the top of Baldy, she went over to the edge to call for him, a gust of wind blew her over the edge, she fell to her death, George came back and looked for her. He got to the edge and called for her, "DI ANE!", over and over again he called. The rangers found his wife at the bottom of Baldy. On dark, starless nights you can hear him calling...DI....ANE.....DI...ANE....DI...ANE........ This one inspired by Copper Breaks SP, a group of native americans lived there ages ago, they had everything they needed, fresh water, shelter, trees, game was plentiful, some young hunters went out and came upon the largest herd of deer they ever saw, they thought they should slaughter the entire herd and would look like heroes, so they did, when they returned to the village to boast, an elder told them they were greedy and their actions would surely curse the village, they would butcher the deer at daylight, overnight it rained really hard, flooded their village, sweeping away most of the people and the deer they had killed. Only the men from the hunting party survived the flood. To this day, the antlers of the deer can be seen along the surface of the lake at Copper break. South Llano inspiration, Some boys went over to look at the pioneer graves next to what had been Walter Buck's house and is now the park office, their mother told them not to go inside the fence and that the spirits needed to rest, undisturbed, the son asked what might happen if they "woke up"? The mother did not have an answer for him but left him thinking about what if.........They were sitting on the railing of the fence, trying to get a better look at the graves and they noticed the leaves at the top of the tree in the corner of the cemetery were moving, maybe it was the ghost of Walter Buck, then they heard someone say "Get off of there, go now!", the kids looked at each other, frozen, until they heard the voice again, so they ran, as they turned the corner down the camp loop to their site, one turned to see if they were being chased by a ghost and he saw it, not a ghost, but, a man in overalls! One of the park hosts ![]() We are working on more...................please add your own. |
