No, I'm sending that in a special waterproof envelope. I might need to use a box though...

You mean Résumé?
Sorry I don't speak African

It's nice to have a "pretty" hard copy on good paper stock to hand out when at interviews or for friends to pass along.
But if you are submitting them online, it's best to use word so that most people can look at it the way you intended

Aren't you in high school? How could you have a long resume by now?

It's not really that long, just wordy descriptions of things. Education section is short. Prior jobs is short. Skills is relatively long, since I have a lot of those .

Wouldn't pdfs be best then? Always consistent. And pdfs can be from latex or word. Which should I use?
PDF's are fine if you have the software. If you are using PDF's, make it as nice looking as you can.

However, keep a word version only for those damn companies that don't allow attachments and simply ask you to cut and paste it in a text box.

Don't list skills, give examples of when you utilized them.

I have a 2 pager and a 1 pager... I like my 1 pager better and use it more often, I get good responses.

Functional resumes suck, stick with Chrono

Are you doing one skill per line, like "skill1" (hard return) "skill2" (hard return)? If you are, then don't. People already know what the skills are by their names alone, there's no need to add descriptions - my resume says "C, C++, C#," not "C: A low-level language. (hard return) C++: Some object-oriented-ish crap put on top of C. (hard return)"

Yup, at your age and point in career, a long resume only demonstrates that you can't present things concisely. Keep it one page, keep your points short and easy to read. You can always elaborate in the interview.

Relevant Classes: CS101, CS102, etc. All on one line (barring word wrap). If they want details on the classes they can check the course catalog.

It's ok to have a "clean/simple" resume that is a good summary of your skills/abilities.
You can use a "personal" cover letter to include specifics that address the actual job you are using it for.

If you are only doing a resume for a single job, and have no intention of using it for anything else, then personalize it for the job.

AND USE COLUMNS... a bunch of short lines looks like crap.

Any job description should include specifics about how exactly you helped or improved the company or system/part with which you were involved.

By the way, thanks for the advice everyone...I've never really done this before, so I hope I don't seem TOO stupid. But I probably do regardless . Thanks again.

The fact that you are asking for help instead of thinking you know everything even though you have never done it before is a good sign

Multi-page resumes are fine, if you are in a position that warrants it.

No one at 17 (or usually 20..22...) will warrant it.

Mine is two pages but concisely organized with a 'summary' at the top. I've many versions of it depending what I'm applying for. But this is because I've done such a wide variety of things since I started my career that I need the space to simply list them. My sort of position is a 'jack of all trades' type, and I need the space to demonstrate that.

If you're doing something lacking any skill whatsoever (HR, anything with an art degree ), 1 page is loads.

FWIW my resume has gotten me about 50 headhunter calls in the past 1 1/2 months since I posted it on monster and made it searchable. That's the other thing about having a longer resume in the tech scene -- it's all about the keywords with Monster.

I don't know why an unemployed school tutor with an arts degree is posting in this thread, but I sure hope it is humourous.

99.99% of the people on this forum are more successful than he is at life, in every capacity. Anyone taking job/resume advice from Ben Kenobi may as well put 'I AM A PEDOPHILE' in bold font at the top of their resumes.
